Hi people

Can you give me some indication as to what speeds you all get when downloading with bittorrent software? Im using BitComet and I cant say that im really impressed, though I am behind a firewall. I mean surely it cant make THAT big a difference...

So im looking for experiences with this area, and advice, also sites etc.

should be interesting :D

Firewall = big difference. Look at which port BC listens on and unblock that port on your firewall. Also something else which may affect speeds is the number of seeders. More seeders = faster speed.

maxing out the line. 384, but depends on the age of the file and seeds. use bitcomet.

U maust look to see how connections are made, if u see any "NAT" connections u need to port forward.

Don't use Bitcomet. It's banned on most decent private trackers (where you'll eventually want to be) so you might as well start out using the preferred (and best) software:

Download µTorrent

WRT speeds, if you're on a decent tracker (ie. its not full of rate limiting noobs) you should be able to max out your line.

Agreeing with Fewl on that one...if ur downloading internationally dont expect great speeds atm. Remember amount of seeders makes a difference to how fast you can download. More seeders the better...

i use utorrent, it is reall good! i get 38-42 kbs on 384 and i was getting 50 - 52 on 512 kbs!

yes when i did not open the port i got like 12 MAX on 512! i dunno bout BitComet, but utorrent has a feature to tell u if the port is open, so it is pretty good for ppl with a firewall etc!

Various BitTorrent clients don't effect your speeds. Your network/connection setup does.

Well i don't share so i am not going to get to the private trackers.

using utorrent :D go to options then press queueing. then choose 1 for how many active downloads, and 1 again for active torrents...so you'll only download one at a time....

you prob set an individual torrents max upload speed to be 1kbps....to set all uploads to 1kbps only upload speed you must press options, connections, then change the global bandwidth limiting settings....

BTW: utorrent is the best torrent program :D

As said before, it doesn't make a difference as to which client you use, but more as to how many seeders and downloaders there are. As suggest before I would also go with uTorrent as it kicks ass, you just need to setup the rules and such. Using a program like NetLimiter you are also able to limit your uploads. Here and here are guides to speed things up

ya it should...try downloading some small torrents and check....

im just thinking bout it...it might start uploading the 'just completed' torrent instead of downloading the next one so just try it...

They've probably all got their uploads netlimited to 1k... and in fairness you can't really complain, because so do you.

i download about 3 at a time, and seed about 3 at a time, everything unlimited.....

make sure your port is forwarded on your router also: www.portforward.com follow the instructions they got detailed explanation of exactly how to do it with specific routers and programs including utorrent and i think bitcomet....

then you'll be "connectable" and your speeds will go up...
