Black Friday shift in South Africa

The sales value of tech and durables in South Africa has seen positive growth throughout the year, setting the scene for Black Friday. However, South Africans shouldn't expect discounts like in previous years.

This is according to the South Africa State of the Retail Nation report by NielsenIQ (NIQ), a marketing research firm headquartered in Chicago, US.

Previous years? We hardly had any 'massive' discounts anyway. Maybe a few here and there but overall this Black Friday thin is just a hype that Takealot introduced into RSA about 10 years ago and slowly it is dying.

Same as guy Fawkes, no one even sees it anymore, and so too this Black Friday thing will fade away over the years here in RSA

Post your scams here!
Here we have a company called ACDirect stating their Samsung 24,000BTU was normally on sale for R30,149 and now an amazing discount black friday sale down to R21,699! that's amazing... BUT hang on, Hirsch have the exact same aircon for sale without any special for R21,799 : Model AR24BSEA

ACDirect = SCAM

Done my shopping already as prices go up for black friday, not down. Last week after buying a battery, I also decided to upgrade my charger from 10A to a 20A charger. Had issues paying on a certain site, phoned them, and was then told, here is our new website, try this. Low and behold, new website has "Black Friday" specials, but now price is R300 more expensive.

Was also planning on getting second MPPT and a second shunt, all prices went up as well, everywhere it seems

Retailers pawning off their old goods before the new year arrives with newer tech

Came to say this. As for Guy Fawkes, we seem to get it on 31 October with the army shooting and bombing.

If you are looking for a good 24K inverter aircon, give Adrian a call from Robustra, also on Bobshop. He has a TCL 24K inverter aircon going for about 15.5K.
Also, Leroy Merlin has a new entrant for SA called Whirtrix, the 24K inverter model is going for 14K.

I'm TV shopping and Samsung isn't even trying to be competitive.

Both LG and Hisense have "decent" specials running, but still even with these specials the LG OLEDs are still much more expensive than they are in the US, UK and Europe.

So instead of 10% discount it will now be 5%. Think I'll sit this one out and rather build up my crypto portfolio.

In SA you pay a luxury tax and the middlemen need a lot of cash too. Plus extra insurance and security fees. It all adds up. A high crime, low trust society means high prices. (Also the market is small).
