It is Xenophobia, we all practice it to some level actually.

Like cbrunsdonza said, us white people will criticise Europeans for not fitting in 100%, the black will criticise each other for not fitting in with their specific culture, etc etc...

More often than not its very mild, and there is no malice intended really, but its still Xenophobia.

So tonight I went out with some friends and one of them brought a black friend with from Zim, very well spoken and well educated, so we all chatting and there is black South Africans sitting behind us, they heard the zim guy speaking English, and they start chirping him about why is he speaking English and that this is South Africa he must speak Zulu or whatever, and they say this all in front of us 4 white guys, and I was pretty stunned by what I had just heard, but I just kept quiet and didn't even bother because I know if I had opened my mouth It would a just gone one way, and by that, I meant I would a been labeled as a racist. I pretty much lost all faith in the younger generation of black people after hearing that, and just felt there really isn't much hope in curing this racism thing, it will always be there and if anything I think it is just getting worse, yes not everyone is like this, but this is why it will always just be a never ending circle black and white people, it's really sad.

Main point though was I couldn't believe how they were chirping him in a way as if he was siding with the white people and that he should be hanging out with black people instead, yes this may not be classified as racism, but that's just how I saw it, they saw him as white because he was hanging out with white people.

That's not racism. That's xenophobia.

Jip my point was more about him socialising with white people, it couldn't have been xeno becuase they weren't exactly chirping him about him taking here jobs, but on a different subject, is it just me or do you guys find the black people around Africa to be way better than South African black people? I don't think i've ever encountered a black person from another country in Africa with race issue with a white person and vice versa, everytime i've met someone from Malawi or where ever they seem to have the utmost respect for people over here, the only people I can say that aren't really friendly are the students I have met from the congo.

Had some issues with some Nigerian guys but that was a specific incident and had more to do with the people than their nationality. I do agree though, that black south africans do still have a race issue but it's the same with all races in the country. Some black people can't fathom the idea of actually having to work towards something and chirp "Apartheid" which to me is just as bad as when a black manager who is qualified and said to be hired because of BEE but some white people.

Hope my kids don't have to deal with this k@k

They could tell from his accent that he isn't from here. Hence why they only said something when he spoke.

Some black people have issues is all I'll say :D

This one black dude threw his toys out the cot and started swearing at the bar staff because they would not serve him his next beer before he paid for the first one or handed over his credit card/car keys. He kept on shouting it's because he's black etc and they are the white man's bitches etc :D The bar staff eventually had enough of his kuk and the smallest dude told him in no uncertain terms to f-off. Now he probably saw me not paying a cent while ordering and most likely assumed it's because I'm white but it's because I'm a local, the owner knows me, the staff know me and there's only a few locals granted the privilege. The rest of the people pink, white, green, black etc have to provide a credit card or car keys they keep behind the counter if they want to run a tab.

It's class tension, if anything. Perceived snobs vs. plebs. You saw it in Parliament as well, when Blade Nzimande gave Lindiwe Mazibuko schit for her accent.

It's racist in that the kids doing the chirping believe that one's skin colour dictates one's culture and friends. I suppose they weren't being racist to the guy from Zim but they were trying to belittle him for associating with those of another skin colour.

Lol. South Africans that don't know racism is. :)

You guys are "special" :)

This after reading a thread where some dude thinks pilots call 911 if they have an emergency on board their aircraft.

Mybb supposedly being a South African IT forum, is this representative of the average intellect of IT labour in SA ?

Please tell me it isn't so :)

Do you have no UK forums to hang out in? Do you miss us so much that you spend all your time on the Internet reading and commenting on a SA forum..? :D Tell me it isn't so :)
