BlackBerry 10 devices will be revealed in January

Feels like I have been waiting an eternity. Definitely getting the N-series when it launches.

Goodluck to them!

Trust me, I've seen enough of the OS to know that I would not have waited in vain.

The question for RIM is, have they left it too late?

It is all about the reception from the consumers and right now Android is too entrenched in their minds and hearts that it is near impossible to penetrate.

These new devices may be all good and well, however, my concern is the network quality will make or break the user experience. It seems Vodacom and MTN are already implementing restrictive measures, presumably in anticipation of the rich data intensive hunger of these new devices. I, for one, is cautiously optimistic. Time will tell.

I want one of these but I cant trust mtn with their crappy service

Cool I will definitely be getting one as my replacement for my second phone which is currently a 9900 bold.

Yeah on mtn the experience was becoming slower and slower and I believe vodacom is also like that, however on 8ta I'm enjoying fantastic speeds and my wifes bb is on cell c and its pretty decent too.

Vodacom and MTN will have a big say in if these new BB phones can use BIS like other pre BB 10s or can't and have to use the same data packages as smartphones such as Android and iPhones. Will have to wait and see what happens.

I think with this industry nothing is ever permanent.

5 seconds ago everyone was throwing themselves at Apple.... now its Samsung.

Tomorrow... who knows.

Looking around at the Linkin Park concert, by far the most popular phones were BB's.

From what I've seen of the OS, they're not going to be able to make an appreciable dent in the market at all.

Yes, BBs are still massively popular in SA purely because they're cheap... these new ones won't be cheap, they more than likely won't have the full BIS experience either.

The most common BB's are the 8520 and 9300. I can imagine those users waiting for BB10 to launch and then having to see the price tag that comes with it :whistling:

Also, I can imagine the frustrations trying to use a high-end BB on local "gimped" BIS :erm:

Haha

in south Africa yes it'sby far the most popular phone.

I take it you missed the sarcasm...

My thoughts exactly. No matter how good the BB 10 devices might be, the shoddy and heavily throttled/restricted BIS that has become the norm on some of the providers will have a huge impact on the demand. No point in having a shining new BB 10 device when it takes you several minutes to load web pages.

From what I have seen of bb10, they seem to have caught up about 2 years compared to iOS and android. I would say gingerbread or iOS4 level. They are still 12 months behind I think.

Previously they were at froyo, maybe iOS1 level.

I lovingly refer to our CEO's bb torch as the " just about smartphone". Our CEO is now using my old HTC desire, as the much newer torch is too slow to deal with his mailbox and contact list.

We desperately need them to catch up. We need 4 big smartphone ecosystems. I still say, BB should get out of the hardware business and focus on software only. Go the Google nexus route in developing hardware. Cause their hardware of late, has been crap

Problem is, while we wait for Q1 next year, Apple and Google keep pushing.

Q1 next year should see the release of Android 4.3 (Key Lime Pie probably)
