Blacklisting of account ??

Hi All ,

I'm relatively new here but - I've had an ADSL account since about Feb and my ISP is TelkomInternet (shock, horror!). I get the daily usage monitor emails for my account , just to see how much I can download and how long they take to record how much I have been downloading.

I have a premium 3GB account, and I've been downloading about 4-8 times that amount every month fine before they cap me. Normal mails and everything.

Now what I want to know is , is this normal and have other people been receiving it , and what does telkom mean by this ?

Mail:
"ADSL Restrictions [2006/09/19]:

Reaching the threshold has resulted in your username being disabled from our network of services until the 1st of next month.

Your actions have resulted in your username being added to our list of high-end users and repeated behavior of this nature could result in an overall blacklisting of services from TelkomInternet."

Now what does telkom actually mean by this ? If I continue to download they are going to blacklist my account ? What the hell ? Is it recommended then that I just cancel my account on the last day of the month and get a new one on the 1st day of the next month to avoid any hassle ?

I hate telkom.

PS: I only use TelkomInternet since they have the "average" usage policy I , unfortunately since I hate Telkom, find quite useful.

PPS: Telkom are retarded. What's the point of ADSL if u can't download anything ? This is so insulting.

Basically just want to know if I should worry about this or if I can forget about it since Telkom are stupid. Most of the time.

I didnt get any of this, cause I dont have the e-mail sent to me. Some others also got it on the forums, BUT I dont care... ahahahaha

I have two TelkomInternet accounts and 1x Prepaid WebAfrica. If they want to blacklist my account, GO AHEAD TELKOMINTERNET. I will just go with OpenWeb and OpenBrowse.... whayahahahaah!

Hi folks

TelkomInternet Helpdesk says it is junkmail and that it did not come from them. This however raises the question as to how the spammer got hold of this sensitive information... Will try to get some more clarity on the issue on Monday.

I highly doubt it's junkmail as telkom says it to be. More likely it's the way they gonna use to stop the so called 'high' end users. If they go forward with blacklisting then it's really ridiculous and definitely out of line.

Hi ,

I severely doubt its junk mails as these mails are replacing my normal daily usage mails. If these were "junk", then I'd be receiving my normal usage mails too. Where are they then, Telkom?

And I seem to be getting these daily too ; I got another this morning. How annoying to be "reminded" every day ...

Mine doesn't say anything about blacklisting. The difference in cap levels is also interesting.

@IncenDiary: are the posts quoted the same as you received or did you get something other than a usage report?

The one I got this morning reads:

Dear subscriber

A friendly notification that according to our records your usage as at [2006-9-17 00:00:01] reflected the following:

Username : *******@dsl512telkomsa.net

Uploaded : 295.48MB
Downloaded : 7.44GB
Combined Total : 7.73GB
Service threshold : 3.00GB

Please bear in mind that this is a usage-based service and as such is subject to a threshold.

TelkomInternet have opted to offer you an average usage option that will keep you online until such time that the average usage for all subscribers reaches the service threshold.

This means that we are allowing unrestricted access beyond your threshold instead of simply curtailing the service. However, your service may be discontinued once the average usage for all subscribers has been reached. You will then be required to top-up your threshold to remain online.
