Although my service provider is Telkom and I am capped already I would not know if I also have an email to that effect.

I don't even know what my email address is at TelkomInternet, when I applied for the cap I told the Chimpanzee that attended to my call that I was not interested in using their email service and she could put whatever she wanted as my email address.

So maybe there are a few threats of blacklisting me on my unknown email box. :D

What a bunch of morons. Their inefficiency and incapability of enforcing their own rules makes us look like criminals.

Hi folks

TelkomInternet Helpdesk says it is junkmail and that it did not come from them. This however raises the question as to how the spammer got hold of this sensitive information... Will try to get some more clarity on the issue on Monday.

Regards,

RPM
Seems like an awful lot of information for it not to be coming directly from Telkom. They not only know your email address, your usage but also that you're capped.

Unless the individuals concerned are still using the default settings on their routers?

Got my little "Go Fu^& Yourself" in the mail this morning.

This is like buying a M3 BMW and getting a letter from them saying "We noticed you have been going faster than 120Kph. If you keep this up we will have no alternative but to take your car away from you"

Why T F have a 4meg Internet service available, Then spend a lot of time and money setting in place monitoring software only to try and force the users to "monitor their own usage" Now seeing that I can download 3gigs in under 3 hours and I only get updates once a day, does this mean I have to constantly check to see that I don't go over the lousy 3 gig cap????

AND WHY HAVE A 4MEG LINE WITH A 3GIG CAP. that has to be the single dumbest thing I've ever heard of. If I can use the car analogy again, Its like having a 250kph BMW that can only do 2km on a tank of fuel!!!

OK, rant mode set to = 0

Maybe this mail system was impletemented when their whole capping pool system started. It just didnt work then.. wouldnt be suprised.. thats why no1 at telkom can understand it either... i really dont think they are nething to worry about anyway.. I dont think an email can be considered as a written warning... and you would need a few before they are legally aloud to blacklist..

Just turn off your usage e-mail. Then you dont get one. Just logon to the saix or telkom tracker site to check your usage.

LOL yea then just under that they have the little "Telkom Your ISP 4 Life" logo, which is the same as just saying "All your soul are belong 2 us!"

They also made a stuff up with the Proudly Screwing South Africa logo by leaving out the screwing part!

Are those of you receiving these emails using the SASA ADSL stats monitoring tool by any chance?

(I'm not saying it is a dodgy program - i mean I use it, but better safe than sorry)

Nor have I and I've the reputation for downloading over 30gb a month on my 3gb cap in concurrent months.

Has anyone tried calling telkom internet and telling them what complete BS it is to blacklist someone because they (Telkom) can't implement their capping policy correctly?

Its probably pointless, I doubt they care...

I think it is absolutely rediculous. I have heard of overseas people being black listed if they do over 100 gigs, but when you have a meagre 3 gig cap and they warn you for exceeding that, its crazy. Besides, they have been advertising a usage pool type scenario which they are clearly going back on now.

Telkom is slowly squeezing more and more from us. In the beginning, we had uncapped local, then a usage pool scenario and now just plain 3 gigs. Can anyone see the pattern? What next... we can only upload 10 megs per day but only in the first 5 minutes of every hour of each day...and only when Telkom feels like it.

I take offence to telkom using the words "black list" - It's blatantly racist! ;)

Time to sue

This is a load of steaming brown stuff.

Telkom Internet blatantly flouts the law with:
Continued service resets, and
capped local surfing.

Now they send this email which caps you (against the law) and threatens you with "black listing" whatever that may be. No-one in the history of commerce has made money by abusing their customers, it time Telkom learnt that.

Time to send them a wake-up... how about a class-action claiming the value lost by having a local cap? Is that possible in SA?

They can do whatever they want to us. Where are we going to go?

I don't have Sentech or Iburst in my area. The only choice I have for "broadband" is adsl.

Hi All ,

I'm relatively new here but - I've had an ADSL account since about Feb and my ISP is TelkomInternet (shock, horror!). I get the daily usage monitor emails for my account , just to see how much I can download and how long they take to record how much I have been downloading.

I have a premium 3GB account, and I've been downloading about 4-8 times that amount every month fine before they cap me. Normal mails and everything.

Now what I want to know is , is this normal and have other people been receiving it , and what does telkom mean by this ?

Mail:
"ADSL Restrictions [2006/09/19]:

Reaching the threshold has resulted in your username being disabled from our network of services until the 1st of next month.

Your actions have resulted in your username being added to our list of high-end users and repeated behavior of this nature could result in an overall blacklisting of services from TelkomInternet."

Now what does telkom actually mean by this ? If I continue to download they are going to blacklist my account ? What the hell ? Is it recommended then that I just cancel my account on the last day of the month and get a new one on the 1st day of the next month to avoid any hassle ?

I hate telkom.

PS: I only use TelkomInternet since they have the "average" usage policy I , unfortunately since I hate Telkom, find quite useful.

PPS: Telkom are retarded. What's the point of ADSL if u can't download anything ? This is so insulting.

Basically just want to know if I should worry about this or if I can forget about it since Telkom are stupid. Most of the time.

I agree - what is the deal with this capping bull anyhow? My brother-in-law lives in London. He has a 16MB pipe at home with NO CAP - if he can download 1000 gigs in a month, then so be it... I am going over in Dec. for a 3-week holiday and will have to buy a 300GB HDD while I am there, just to bring home some of the stuff I want from him.
It sickens me that we are so far behind in this country and that Telkom take us for a ride in the way they do.
It's typical what the head of Telkom said recently about Neotel starting up - that "a price war would not benefit either company" - to hell with the companies - what about us - the consumers - your customers - the ones that pay your bills and make it possible for your company to exist.
Too long, we have kept quiet and accepted the bull. You days are limited Telkom.
Capping, please... What nonsense - it's like saying: "Here are the keys to that brand new sports car over there - it's all yours, but don't let us catch you driving it". Sort of defeats the object, doesn't it?

What worries me the most is that once the SNO gets up and running I think they will, like any SA company not have this all out price war we are all hopping for. I'm very sure pricing will be on par with smelkom for many years to come. The allure of striking it rich and making lots of moola in a short time is just to great for a semi government organization to resist. And we all know your average CEO and cronies wants to be earning the 11 million bonuses at the end of each year. As a case in point how much cheaper is CellC compared to vodacom?
