Hi

I have somebody phoning me repeatedly and then dropping the call the moment I answer the phone. When I say repeatedly I mean 5 times in as many hours. This is causing frustration when I am in meetings and then also when I am traveling and on roaming and I receive a call at 3am in the morning.

The problem is, the calls are from a Private Number, so I have no recourse to address this issue with the caller. Is there any way I can get this information from Vodacom or if I give the time of the call where Vodacom can address it directly with the caller?

No. Install Tru Caller. Block private numbers. Profit.

I'm using a Windows phone which has an option to block private calls. I turned the feature on and it tells me with a message beep if a call has been blocked. I started using it after getting calls about once a day from some kind of robot caller. Also just waits to pick up and then disconnects. The only issue with blocking is that calls from switchboards etc will also be blocked but for me it's not an issue. Private numbers should just be banned anyway.

I tried Truecaller for a while, was too obtrusive for my taste. I just block it inside my phone app now (using CM, think it's the same in normal Android too).

i Had the same problem,so i called vodacom and told them im being harrassed by 'no caller id' 5-10 times daily and asked them if they can block them somehow.they told me to go to the police(i didnt) because they cant do anything, and shortly after that all the anonymous calls stopped(touch wood).coincidence?

Is this the app 'CM Security AppLock AntiVirus'? Unfortunately this app is only available from Samsung S6, I am still on a 'very old' phone.

Truecaller I see has a requirement of Android 4.0.3 and up. I will have to upgrade the OS for that, but it should be more feasible. I will give that a try.

Oh no sorry, CM = Cyanogenmod. A custom ROM.

The Conspiracy Theorist in me suspect it is actually Vodacom that sold the number on the black market...

I think that with the new POPI act, this should now be compulsory. If the number is not available, I have no recourse to enforce my rights as per the Act.

All we need now is an OUTA or an AfriForum or somebody to take it to court and get it enforced.

i downloaded an app called "TRUECALLER". i blocked private numbers and spammers from calling me! when they phone it goes straight to voicemail but i will see that they tried to phone. the app also tells who who is calling if you do not have the person's phone number saved on your phone.

Only works if you have a good internet connection and the number is known (i.e. they got it from someone's contact list).

There are many apps that will block private numbers, unfortunately some companies and banks like to "hide" who they are. Take a leaf out of Nedbank's book. Not once have I received a call from Nedbank via a private/withheld number.

Surely the networks can see who has called.

Why do the networks make it so difficult to block numbers? And PCM's. To the network employee that gives us the ability to block cross network PCM's, I'll spot you and your whole family to a Spur diner every month for a year!
