Good article. I found this particularly true:

This makes it a lot easier to pan the product if it’s below par – after all not many are willing to admit that what they bought is anything less than the holy grail of computing.

The emotional link to a product is multiplied when it's linked to a financial link (or loss?) making some people quite blinkered when it comes to criticism of the product they own.

Hardware reviews are strangely enough, still pretty useful and accurate when deciding on what to buy. It seems that the ridiculous corruption that makes games reviews such a farce hasn't infected the hardware sites. Yet.
