My '06 320D just came back from having the turbo replaced, so I'm thinking of upgrading. Being my 1st Beemer I am very happy with it but what else should I consider? I'm looking at the 335i as my car is paid up so I could it trade it in and hopefully make a good dent in the purchase price.
Should I wait for the facelift BMW in '09 or just go for it. Looking for performance now. My 320D is nippy for a diesel but I want something better :D
Any advice?

Remember to add in petrol costs aswell.. cause trust me that 335 is going to be drinking petrol.

but an awesome car non the less. thing i don't like about 335 is ask your average women, and she will think its the same as the 320... but if your married go for it. :)

please get a coupe ... cause yes a sedan just looks so ...like a 320i :) ... and the petrol story .. it aint too bad ... i had one btw (a convertible) ... best bmw i have had ...

but yes 4cer comments are true regarding the woman folk

nothing to compete, an M3 is about R700k with no extras! ... and the 335i is quicker/just as quick as the M3 on a straight (up here)...

S5 is pretty, but a 335i is much quicker ... and its one good looking car ... a white one with the msport kit ... mmmm

That is one awesome beast.
But about R100k more expensive than the 335i

According to BMW's downloadable pricelist the base 335 coupe is R530 500 and the Audi website lists the S5 as R565 500 so its not that much difference, especially if you go for the better looking models.

I was initially looking at the 335i sedan which is about R100k cheaper than the S5. But the guys here made a valid argument that going coupe would prob be better so then yes, it puts it in the S5 range. Sorry for the misunderstanding ;)

I have the E90 325i sedan. Personally, E92 (coupe) looks so much better than my sedan.

the 335i is an awesome car, and if u have watched the newest top gear series on youtube or from the news server, you will know, that the car doesnt consume much petrol, its how you drive. a prius used more petrol than a m3 at the same speed on the same track for 10 laps. send pics if u want, would really like to see it :) the sedan looks really good actually, you will have the option to have people in the back and the slightly bigger boot and in black, oh yes baby, hehe

NOTE that this is Top Gear which means it's about as "scientific" as Mythbusters. :D

BMW 335i with the optional new special edition sports package available, only 300(if i can remember correctly from our news letter) BMW 3series will be built with this optional package, and only in certain colours.

M3 performance for a good fews thousands less, great fuel economy for a 3.0lt twin turbo.

135i!!!!!!!!!!!!! AIFK

+1

Also, the 335i/135i are actually very frugal on gas given their performance. Drive one like I drive (i.e. drive like a granny) and you could get 10l/100km.

Id definately go for the 335i. Awesome machine. Also remember, that coupe's and convertibles seem to keep their price a bit longer compared to the sedan. As far as power is concerned, it has plenty. Its a freakin twin turbo, why are you even asking us?

Go get the beast!

If you live in Gauteng, the force-fed (turbo) engine means you won't suffer such a big performance loss (~5%) compared to a normal engine (~15-18%). This makes the 335i compete with its M3 sibling on pure straight-line performance...

All the reviews I've read/seen on the BMW 335i basically ended up raving about it. It gives excellent price/performance ratio. It obviously doesn't look quite as butch as an M3 - but that isn't a option to you, right? The coupe with an M-sport kit will look very cool - Pearl white with black interior. Just check the price after going for the coupe + sport kit + other 'must' options, sometimes you end up so close to the price of an M3 that has most of kit standard you have to reconsider. BMW probably works it out that way....

If you're spending that sort of money I'd consider a Lumina with a supercharger. RGM will even give you a warranty with it and you'll have a RWD 450+kw machine. :)

135i makes the best use out of the 3.0 twin turbo motor, its lightning quick. But dont waste your time buying a 135i without the sports pack, doesnt do it justice at all.

Saw a 135i outside the office this morning on a flat bed on 16th road, some dude had a hard time keeping it on the road, hope he's ok because the car isn't. There goes a brand new car. Funny thing, that car belonged to us until April this year.
