Never. If you really want peace of mind, SA Warranties will give you decent cover for two years for ±R8,000.

At BMW?!!! hahaha

That would be R3,000 - R4,000 from BMW. Talking a BMW specialist/mechanic here, since there's no point servicing at BMW anymore, though a FSH on the BMW system may add a percent or two in private resale value.

Ross Duncan is the best mechanic for a BMW out of plan. Based in Midrand. Lots of guys rave about his service on the local fanatics forum

What do you mean by "any campaigns are active on it"? thx

"Campaign" is BMW-speak for TheresSomethingWrongAndWe'llFixItForYou. AFAIK, the campaign work is free, but if something gets cocked up when they do it it's nice to be in motorplan. Just take it to a dealer and ask if there are campaigns on your car. Mention the VANOS-bolts campaign.

Hi

Is it worth it spending R30k to extend a bmw motorplan for 1year/15,000km (current ODO is 94,000km) ?

Its a 335i and I have never had any trouble with it (except with a recent oil leak).

I know this is really a peace of mind payment - but is it worth it? or anyone had any experieince with this?

thanks

ps. I am not going to sell or trade it

If you never had any trouble after 94 000kms, then keep it outside motorplan. N54 or N55 engine?

I've had 2007 E92 335i Auto and later 2009 E93 335i DCT.

The 2007 E92 335i cost BMW Motorplan R140k after 92 000kms. Most costs were related to 4 recalls for the High Pressure Fuel Pump and biggest single cost was R27k for turbo failure. I later realized the car had been modded before.

The 2009 E93 335i cost BMW Motorplan R70k after 88 000kms. Biggest cost was R30k to replace all brake discs, pads. Another big service was R20k to replace camshaft damaged through my "abuse" of the Launch control system.

I wouldn't and didn't when I got a similar quote to extend the motorplan on my Audi for 1 year/15000kms. Still sounds excessive...

Seems like the manufacturers' own motor plan extensions cost more than what you can get from insurance companies

Back in July 2013, Motorite gave me this quotation for extending BMW 335i Motorplan.
VEHICLE : BMW 335i
CONTRACT MONTHS : 24 Months
CONTRACT KILOMETERS : 40 000Km’s
PRICE : R 69 689.00 (VAT incl)

VEHICLE : BMW 335i
CONTRACT MONTHS : 36 Months
CONTRACT KILOMETERS : 60 000Km’s
PRICE : R 104 533.00 (VAT incl)

I realized BMW Motorplan covers most things which are excluded by Motorite. e.g. exclusions

- Transmission oil, brake fluid or other lubricants
- Any convertible mechanisms or Sun Roof
- Repairs to Radio, tape, CD, DVD, telephone or any electronic device not crucial to the drive-ability or safety of the
vehicle.
- Wheel alignment or Balancing
- Parts which are not crucial to the driveability or safety of the vehicle
- Claims related to engine, gearbox or differential failure are limited to R10 000 for each claim
