Authorities in Arizona released body camera footage showing a suspect in Tucson pointing a handgun at a police dog’s head before the suspect was fatally shot by officers.

"Police, get down. Police, get down," Tucson Police SWAT officers were heard yelling at suspect Francisco Javier Galarza, 49, on Aug. 25 outside a Circle K.

The SWAT team had been surveilling Galarza due to felony arrest warrants connected to a home invasion and bank robbery, the Arizona Republic reported.

I know a couple of current end ex K9 police officers. From stories they tell, you DO NOT mess with their dogd, or even threaten to do such. This proves it beyond measure. Good on them.

There was always a risk that he could have quickly switched his aim towards a person and open fire.

As usual you're missing the point..

A K9 is a police officer and when threatened in this manner, deadly force can and is used.
Emotional attachments aside, a k9 dog is considered a working dog not a police officer, at least in Arizona where this happened.

My bad. I am not as clued up on all Police Canine Statutes of 50 states.

Mind quoting the AZ Statute re. this?

can people be prosecuted for Harming a police K9?
I mean if they try feeding them something poisoned, and then they die,

My statement was an example of PR spin that could be used.

unlike you I feel that I should offer more to the topic than echoing the same exact point other people are making like an NPC bot.

so all those criminals that poison peoples dogs to break in during Load shedding,
they should all go to jail,

Yes.

But.

Not as profitable as expired license discs and fining people on the beach during covid.
