Did have a look through the forum, but couldn't quite find the answer to this...

I wanted to convert from pre-paid to a contract to take advantage of the monthly bolt-on data bundles, but when I went to the closest Vodacom shop they told me that I couldn't add a bundle to anything less than a Weekender contract. Is this true? What about the Messenger and 4U contract options? The last thing I need at the moment is more off-peak talk time.

I believe you can add a bundle to a 4U contract or a messenger contract maybe get confirmation from V3g.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'll get in touch with v3g if he doesn't reply to this thread.

You can most definitely do it. The challenge is to convince the shop they should sell it to you....

Maybe phone around till you find a knowledgeable sales person. But don't take no for an answer.

A 4U contract with bolt-on bundles gives you all the advantages of both pre-paid and contracts.

Veethree, good luck in getting a 4U contract, it is a mission, most of the shops are clueless. I suggest you start calling the shops - make sure you mention the words "CONTRACT", "4U" and "zero monthly subscription". Keep the URL handy so that the shop assistants can check it out for themselves.

Where are you situated?

You can convert from pre-paid to contract, but if you bought the pre-paid card at e.g. Autopage, Autopage will have to convert it to contract, and I don't think they do the 4U contracts. I had a VodacomSP prepaid card converted to 4U. If you convert from prepaid to contract you won't pay the R200 connection fee, at least that was the case with VodacomSP.

Thanks, guys. I am situated in Randpark Ridge, but it looks like I'll have to do some serious phoning around to get what I want. At least I know it's possible now, and I'll be able to avoid the connection fee as I did sign up through VodacomSP.

If only the shop assistants were half as knowledgable as the people on this forum...

Why should they be knowledgeable?

They make enough money selling easy voice contracts with nice shiny phones and hifi freebies.

Not worth the time and commission attending to a difficult request such as convert pre-paid to something I've never heard about...

In that case try Vodaworld first. I am quite sure they do the 4U contract.
By the way, CLIP and itemised billing are optional extras, for data you don't need that. Make sure you cross it out on the contract application.
