" The metamorphosis of Brexit to Brelcome is truly a thing to behold "
Britain actually has a strong level of responsibility for the people there historically speaking, also it's one part of British Imperial history that is not terrible. It's a no-brainer that he would prefer them as imigrants to the regular 3rd world flood.... also it really is the right thing to do for once.

These people where under English rule for a long time up until recently. Actually a decent thing to do. Fairly impressed England is able to do this politically with the anti immigration slant of the country right now, after all they just passed brexit. Must be a lot of sympathy for the people of Hong Kong right now in the UK.

"If China proceeds to justify their fears, then Britain could not in good conscience shrug our shoulders and walk away; instead we will honour our obligations and provide an alternative."
obligation? it is a disgrace.

they are entitled to receive their full citizenship now, not 12 months.

Sajid Javid and then Priti Patel as home secretary. Children of ex-immigrants tackling immigrant menace. No one is as faithful as the converted ones.

It's overdue, back in 1997 when hong kong was returned to china the hand over was basically abandoning hong kong and its populace. If you didn't have living ancestry in britain at the time (and if you failed to immediately claim british citizenship if eligible) you were basically considered a hong kong citizen under a broader chinese citizen classification, which superficially seems fine if you were ethnically chinese but also included everyone else like Caucasians, etc, that moved there or born there from britain.

He's going to ship them all to Aus just watch.

Not a chance the UK can absorb tha many new job seekers when their unemployment is so high already.

Legally it's the only thing he can do, previous governments should have done it but were too far left to want to.... or too cowardly.

Before Covid-19 UK was almost at full employment. And don't underestimate the amount of wealth that these HKers will bring to the UK - many of them will be job creators, not job seekers. I imagine many international companies incorporated in HK will move with their owners to the UK as well.

The Hong kong people tend to be able to look after themselves.

I think you just figured out Boris's real motive for doing this.

The amount of "lower job" seekers here in the UK is phenomenal.

There is no work currently.

A large amount of people are definitely going to go to Australia, especially the richer Hong Kongers who'll bring to their own wealth but ironically this will suit China's long term goal of sinicizing Australia
