Exchange rate:

1 Botswana Pula = 1.20480 South African Rand
1 South African Rand (ZAR) = 0.83001 Botswana Pula (BWP)
(according to http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic )

That makes local calls at 0.17 pula per minute cheaper than Telkom (around R0.20 unless my math is as bad as I fear). Oh well, shafted again. We've been kicked so many times already, we barely notice anymore.

You have to add 10% VAT to the 0.17 pula.

Currently we convert pre VAT figures in pula to rands post VAT by adding a third.

17 thebe then becomes about 22.3c VAT included.

OK, fair enough, but Telkom prices are 0.00585 per second, or R 0.351 per minute EX VAT or just over 40c per minute - making Botswana around 45% cheaper.

And if geography serves me, they are even further from the northern hemispehre (Telkoms big excuse), since they are landlocked (although they are closer "as the crow flies".)
