Hi

I recently bought a used car from a dealer. When I went to go add the vehicle on my etoll account and enter the license the site says "There are violations associated with this VLN". Regardless of the ones stance on etolls, I really do not want to be saddled with previous owners etoll violations.

What should I do now? I haven't seen the actual amount.
The car was bought from a dealer.

The previous e-tolls are the previous owners issue. If you are now the registered owner, then its not your issue.

I don't know how one registers the cars online, is it blocking you from adding it? You will probably have to go to one of those SANRAL customer centres and find out.

Those Sanral losers with their bad out of date eNatis info and bad systems probably think its still linked to the old owner.

Give SANRAL a call and see what is what - I would assume that that they should have a process in place to deal with situations like these...

Should have, could have, would have,

Sanral is so broken and inaccurate that its pointless trying to pay, its probably wrong anyway......

If 10 year old kids on bikes get etoll bills, what makes you think its even worth paying, or attempting to pay?

Just my 2c worth.....

This is true - but the OP was asking for advise regardless of ones stance on etolls...

So that's what I did :)

I gave him the advice.

Its an owner pays system. The previous owner must pay for his stuff, nothing to do with the new owner. new owner just needs to go tell SANRAL he is the new owner if he is so inclined.

Yes, it's never been a user pays system, only physical toll gates can be user pays.

I also bought a car three months ago that has R6000 in e-tolls outstanding from the previous owner.

Not my problem, they can get stuffed.

I checked a few weeks after the car was registered in my name, SANRAL still had it in the previous owners' name.

Their system is completely screwed.

Do dealerships register the car in their name while they have it on the floor for sale?

This is true, and probably 90% of cars that have changed owners recently have no reflection on sanral side.
Probably most people done even really care...

Pointless trying to pay, or even try track down somebody who used to pay.....

They use garage plates, on which they don't pay etolls.

When I went for a test drive recently, I found the proper plates in the boot (used car), they were using garage plates for this very reason.
