Now here, friend Pitbull, is someone who is, IMO, guilty of murder because of his negligent approach to firearms.

Boy, 6, shoots sister, 4, with his dad's gun

PRETORIA: The six-year-old son of a presidential protection unit constable in Soshanguve has shot his four-year-old sister, killing her, while playing with his father's firearm.

The constable, Monnapula Leepile, said his daughter Kgalalelo, four, and his son had managed to reach his privately owned gun while they were playing in the house.

His son pulled the trigger, wounding Kgalalelo in the stomach. She died at a clinic.

He said the adults at home at that time had not noticed where the children were.

"I was on duty at the Union Buildings when I received a call from one of my neighbours."

Leepile said he kept the gun loaded with a single bullet in the chamber to ensure it was ready to use if his family were threatened. He has a second, official firearm.

He said, as a policeman, he was aware that he would face charges for negligence and go through disciplinary processes.

"I am a man of the law and I know they (the children) were not supposed to reach that gun, but I have just lost my daughter and there cannot be worse punishment than that. I am heartbroken and right now my mind is not working straight."

His son did not realise how serious the situation was.

He would take him for counselling.

"The last thing I want to do is to devastate him. The priority right now is to get him counselling and help him through this."

"As a policeman, I work hard and when things like this happen one realises that tragedy can hit anyone."

Police spokesperson Solly Marindi said a case of culpable homicide would be opened against the little boy and the father would be investigated on a charge of negligence.

I agree with you Koos.

And the fact that he was a Policeman is sickening. WTF did he thing a gun lying around would be used for ? He of all people should know what guns do to people, and he didn't even have it in a safe

He's a fk'ng retard and should be jailed for murder

You now what pisses me off here is that my son nearly became a victim of gun stupidity:

Got some family over and one of them left their 9mm in his luggage bag. My 18mth old son is curious at that age and discovered the firearm. Fourtanetly I walked into the room before he started to fiddle with it (and thank goodness it was not cocked and still in its holster).

My brother-in-laws fiancee (who has a grand daughter my sons age) was so pissed with him when she found out about this ... (and trust me I was so tempted to call the Police and take whatever legal action I could :( )

As much as i feel sorry for the man's loss, think about the emotional damage his son will now go through knowing he killed his own sister.

All firearms should allways be kept in LOCKED safes!!!!!

As a police officer he should have known this. I hope he gets the worst sentence possible for ruining his daughter and sons life with his own stupidity.

:(

Sorry for being so harsh but thats how i feel.

I am so sick of people with an IQ of 2 being givin firearms in this country its really not a joke. We have a serious issue here.

Firearms are either in a safe or on your person, no other places. Why is that so difficult to understand. But I do feel sorry for the whole family, things will never be the same again after this:(

This is just so sad as I have a daughter the same age and would be utterly heartbroken if I had to lose her.

I snipped out the part where I was initially angry at the father. But his loss is probably worse punishment than any words of anger I post here.

Whether he go to jail or not, for the rest of his life he will always remember that because of his stupidity his son has killed his sister, their daughter. I do not want to be in his shoes.

If he was not sure how to handle gun why he was issued one? Do they have any evaluation like one imposed on ordinary people?

I wouldn't call it beautiful, but yea, it's ironic that these are the guys who figure they're the only ones who should be allowed guns / blue lights / speeding / etc...
