Boy, 9, killed and mother critically injured after gunmen riddle vehicle with bullets in Midrand

A boy, 9, has died and his mother is in a critical condition after two men shot at their vehicle in Midrand on Tuesday afternoon.

The mother, 41, had just picked up her son and daughter, 13, from school when they were accosted around 15:00, Gauteng police said.

"The two suspects then jumped into a car that was parked nearby and sped off."

While the girl escaped unharmed, the mom and son were rushed to a medical care centre. The son later succumbed to his injuries.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and no arrests have yet been made.
