Boycott MWEB. Because they don't care if you leave...

I'll be canceling my MWEB account and move my ADSL line to Telkom shortly. I've already signed up with OpenWeb for their Gamers King 4Mbps account, because the throttling on a 4Mbps line to like 30KB/s after hours is just unacceptable - not to mention that they said they'll only be doing that from 1 September.

Perhaps I should try to opt that they cancel/move the line effective immediately (OR at the latest by 31 Aug), and not after 30 days, because how they've handled the whole situation is just shocking.

I have respect for poor MWEB Guy who has to sit with this mess, because he's always helped me out with my problems - except for the exchange congestion which was out of his hands.

I really do feel for MWEB guy and all he can do in this instance is to note the annoyance and refer it to his bosses who are responsible for the misconduct by MWEB.

Instead of putting up with this type of service change providers, I left Mweb 1 month before this crap started. Mweb need to learn, but then we all need to jump ship, there are better options.

I lol'ed HARD. The **** storm is coming... well I hope so.

And some still wonder:
why we are concerned.
Why we are asking.
Why we are barking up this tree.

Of course we are mad ;)
Apparently because we are abusers and must be punished harshly. They probably wanted to use slower speeds but then it wouldn't be uncapped adsl but uncapped dial up

can I get three guys who have premium accounts and received the letters to reply in this thread or PM me to confirm. Wrapping up the letter so it can be on MWEB managements desk before the weekend.

Please note: On a standard 4Mb Uncapped MWEB package, your account will be throttled down to 256kbps..

Are they ****ing serious? That's not throttling, that's ****ing killing your line. 256kbps is 4 times slower than the slowest linespeed available in South Africa.

The intent behind this move is clear, though. They don't want you to use less. They want you to **** off.

I'm one of the lucky ones to have given notice in July.

Sadly, Lucky I guess, I already gave notice in July. August has been what it was with mweb when free the web was still true.

Must have been because they switched off their live trials of the new throttling system. ;)

To me it honestly felt as though they were overzealous with their shaping from April already. So this has been coming on for a while already.

As far as I am concerned YES! That was the main reason everything suddenly became sour with the Mweb experience. You only have to read the Mweb threads to see the turnabout. From Hero to Zero in no time.

I would've accepted that level of shaping on a basic (browsing, email) uncapped account. Mweb lost the plot when they decided to introduce that level of shaping on a "premium" uncapped account. At one point in time I stopped using my Mweb account for 18 days, just to see what the improvement on P2P would be. Unfortunately, nothing had changed at all.

I dread to think what their throttled offering is like.

Has anyone who cancelled because of this fiasco had Mweb contact them recently saying that they would not process the downgrade before the cancellation date?

I just got an email from them over a week after cancelling and being assured by the call centre that the downgrade would happen, stating that the downgrade is being cancelled.

Not yet, but that would be illegal. What I did was cancel the debit order from credit card and told them I would be doing a manual EFT on the 1st for R29.

Hello everyone, i am new here, although i've followed the forum for some time. I to found a received the abuse email dated back August 8th. Its funny as Mweb could never help getting my email configured via Apple Mail or Thunderbird, on Mac nor Linux. After finding this thread i signed into that online mail which always states i haven't registered when in fact i have. Anyway, i have been with Mweb for about a year and 6 months, shortly after i came to this country from living abroad. I know i specifically asked about watching Netflix etc as i was quite far ahead of S.A tv networks in regards to series etc, and certain series which aren't broadcast here. The sales lady assured me the network could handle it, and uncapped means uncapped (i had to get used to this "capping" idea). Everything has been ok until now, in which i see my traffic will be slowed considerably as of 1st Sep. What i can't understand is my usage here is considerably less than overseas, understandably, but i cannot seem to find any rules or laws whatever about this matter,as if i pay for a line speed and use that line speed for 90% of my day to its potential then surely i,m just using the product i pay for? I have not tried to circumvent their protocols by encrypting i,m merely using the product they sold me with the assurance they "could handle it" I also find it hard to believe that it seems all 3% are on this forum and half my friends list on facebook as all my friends from here are receiving the same notice? Well whatever, i will cancel and move somewhere else, if someone could be so kind as to lead me in the right direction to a proper uncapped ISP in this country that hasn't these strange "rolling day windows" and other strange policies i've never heard about. Thank you all.
