Hello everyone, i am new here, although i've followed the forum for some time. I to found a received the abuse email dated back August 8th. Its funny as Mweb could never help getting my email configured via Apple Mail or Thunderbird, on Mac nor Linux. After finding this thread i signed into that online mail which always states i haven't registered when in fact i have. Anyway, i have been with Mweb for about a year and 6 months, shortly after i came to this country from living abroad. I know i specifically asked about watching Netflix etc as i was quite far ahead of S.A tv networks in regards to series etc, and certain series which aren't broadcast here. The sales lady assured me the network could handle it, and uncapped means uncapped (i had to get used to this "capping" idea). Everything has been ok until now, in which i see my traffic will be slowed considerably as of 1st Sep. What i can't understand is my usage here is considerably less than overseas, understandably, but i cannot seem to find any rules or laws whatever about this matter,as if i pay for a line speed and use that line speed for 90% of my day to its potential then surely i,m just using the product i pay for? I have not tried to circumvent their protocols by encrypting i,m merely using the product they sold me with the assurance they "could handle it" I also find it hard to believe that it seems all 3% are on this forum and half my friends list on facebook as all my friends from here are receiving the same notice? Well whatever, i will cancel and move somewhere else, if someone could be so kind as to lead me in the right direction to a proper uncapped ISP in this country that hasn't these strange "rolling day windows" and other strange policies i've never heard about. Thank you all.

Welcome to MyBB!

You can also take a look at Afrihost, especially their business uncapped offerings.

I'm doing fine on a simple 1Mb uncapped account from Afrihost. It's slow, but it works fine. :)

Complaint finalized and sent. Will start a thread with an attachment. I'll probably only have the template file and stuff ready by tomorrow.

I,m leaning towards Openweb, the gold membership! Anyone have any bad experiences with them yet? Its a toss up between Afrihost business account (slower speed though) vs Openweb Gold package home edition (faster line) ?

My primary account is OpenWeb Gold 6mbps.i am trialling Afrihost Business 6mbps at the moment because OpenWeb - while great at night and weekends - tends to degrade as the business day progresses.
If my Afrihost trial continues as it has since I got it on Fri, I will be putting in my cancellation to OW by 1 September.

With Openweb it depends what you do during business hours. If you're going to try P2P then you will be throttled... I work from home and use my internet mostly during office hours and nothing of mine is affected as I don't use P2P during the day. Youtube is flawless, http downloads go fullspeed, etc. But today I had to download a P2P during office hours and on Gold I still got 100-150kb/s speeds for the whole business day on my 2mb/s line. Gaming during the day is not affected at all either.

Not true.
I am on 6mbps Gold and have endless problems during office hours. Also work from home and also don't download during the day.
Most times, I have to use my cell to download a file from one of my dev sites as my ADSL is just too slow. I can't rely on google maps on my PC to locate a clients address as it just times out (cellphone again). Simple browsing doing research is a grab a cup of coffee while you wait moment.

Using my line from 11H00 until close of business on most working days is a frustrating and terrible experience.

I signed up for 6mbps Afrihost Business Uncapped on Fri and it is like day and night. Difference has been massive.
My cancellation to OW went in this morning.

Agreed. On the OW thread there are guys with your experience and others with mine. Very inconsistent account if you ask me.
Mine would work after a port reset, or modem reboot, or complete account change, or, or... Pain to use. I don't want to have to regularly contact support to get it sorted out. Interrupts my work day and causes me stress

R790 I think my invoice said dude.
Got the Business package.

Again today. Zero issues. Line is performing brilliantly (except for the DNS down time this afternoon - easily worked around).

I wonder if this 179x cancelations:

Attached Files
File Type: doc MWEB_Client_Services_Cancellation_Form.doc (67.0 KB, 179 views)

Even if we take the lowest bracket for 2mbs @ R239 that would mean R513 372 per year less:

239*179=42781
42781*12=513 372 P/j

Afrihost for me is starting to take the lead on terms of my decision! Currently i,m getting an average speed of 30kb/s and youtube videos automatically keep dropping to 144p! Seriously, do people even watch 144p?? Anyway, i'm requesting my cancellation forms from Mweb guy on facebook right now!
