Brackenfell North has gone live on the coverage page with pre-orders :D

Well done to them. Seems that connecting Protea Heights has to roll through Brackenfell North so I guess it makes sense to light them up first.

Last I heard we were still waiting for the points of presence sites to be finalized in Protea Heights :(

If anyone attended the meeting last night please post your feedback.

I only saw some pics and a whole slew of ISPs were there with stands and ready to sign people up :D

Hope that Protea Height's turn comes soon.

Don't want much...just a solid 50/50 please!

Vuma has started trenching in Brackenfell North :)

With any luck some areas will already be up and running by end of the year.

For Protea Heights...well...they are still waiting for point of presence contracts to be completed. From what I read on Facebook this is not a Vumatel hold up but somewhere else.

I am in Brackenfell North and they are busy trenching in our area. Ironically I just came from the shop and lo and behold an Octotel Bakkie is parked on the side of the road. I stop and ask the guy what they are doing, he casually just say oh they are just checking out the copetition and if it would be feasible to move in on the area as well.

All it takes it one company to take the first step...then the rest will follow.

For the people that attended the meeting last night could you please post your thoughts and if anything interesting came out of the discussions?

There was a lot of background info on why Internet speeds suck in SA, and how International got better, and how fibre spread nationally, and then regionally, etc. Mostly boring old news for people who frequent MyBB.

Stuff that is worth knowing:
  • Not much going to happen before end of Jan, from there at least 5 weeks or so before the first houses are coming online
  • Hubs are located at Protea Heights Academy and NG Kerk in Heuwel Street
  • The closer you are to a hub, the sooner you'll be lit up
  • You can pre-order from Vumatel directly, but install cost is R1,700ish, and considering that a lot of ISPs are willing to cover that and throw in a router, you probably should just go via an ISP

The rest is probably common knowledge covering the inform/trench/lay/reinstate process, but if there are any questions ask away.

Beat me to it, thanks for the write up!

Saw on the Brackenfell News and Info group that somebody posted about their awesome new fibre line in Brackenfell, must have been north.

Also, Jakaranda Street has a whole bunch of digging going on.

Who offers to cover the installation charges ??

At the very least, I know Afrihost does. I have not looked into it very much yet as they're just getting started. They work outward from the hub (Protea Heights Academy) in a more or less spiral fashion, so I'm just about as far as I possibly could be..... will be a couple more months before they reach me. :(

I'm on Ferndale's side (where the Total garage with Bonjour shop is). Vumatel really effed up my front lawn
I made a note of the irrigation system on their app form. So waar as vet, they damaged 2 pipes under the ground

I know they have a hub at Protea Academy and at the NG Church.

Per a FaceBook post by Vuma on their official page the should start work in Brackenfell South in 2-3 weeks.

As for ISPs...I'll be going with CISP. Have heard excellent things from their service.
