Well they better start building them now.you'd need some pretty big batteries.

Botswana can't afford to sell at the low rate Zim buys electricity and Zim also pays very irregularly. So, we have become just another "Zimbabwe" having to rely on Botswana and Zambia for electricity....
Uhmm that wouldn't be correct, but also rememberFrom supplying 70% of the electricity to the African continent to begging for electricity from a country with a GDP 200 smaller than SA.
Embarrassing to say the least View attachment 1354972

But Botswana would take vandalism and corruption of its key infrastructure seriously. From supplying 70% of the electricity to the African continent to begging for electricity from a country with a GDP 200 smaller than SA.

Physics mostly. Closest thing you can get to storing electricity is to store it in the electric field of a capacitor. Why cant electricity be stored? Havent they heard of batteries. But i know nothing in anycase.
Yes, some are firm contracts so you don't just wake up in a bad mood and cancel them. But some of it is non firm so they can reduce or completely stop that when we are in trouble.Does Eskom not export to Estawini, Zimbabwe and Mozambique ? Surely it is easier to cancel those contracts or are the penalties worse than importing ?

Mozambique: 950 MW
Lesotho: 90 MW
Swaziland: 250 MW
Namibia: 440 MW
Botswana: 100 MW
When Eskom experiences an emergency shortage of power, all sales to Namibia (440 MW) and Botswana (100 MW) are immediately suspended in full. Furthermore, the supply of electricity to the other neighbouring countries is immediately decreased by 10%, releasing an additional 129 MW. If load shedding still has to be implemented in South Africa after all these measures have been applied, Swaziland and Lesotho’s power is further decreased by approximately 10%, thereby releasing additional 34 MW.
When 440 MW is withdrawn from Namibia, 100 MW from Botswana and 163 MW from the other neighbouring countries, the maximum power that Eskom supplies to neighbouring countries during a shortage in South Africa is just 1 127 MW. Moreover, Eskom can completely suspend the provision of 950 MW to the Mozal aluminium smelter in Mozambique several times a month if necessary, thereby limiting total exports during load shedding in South Africa to approximately 272 MW. This 272 MW to 1 127 MW is considerably less than the maximum of fixed contract imports of 1 648 MW.
maybe people enjoy it, they keep voting the stupids into power,How dismally embarrassing for South Africa. I'm sick of us being the laughing stock. The ANC have brought our country into a disgraceful position.
They're buying it not begging.
Let me know when Botswana cuts them off for non payment. They're buying it not begging.
It’s out of fear. At election time they are emphatically told that they will lose everything and apartheid will come back. The majority’s lack of proper education cements this thinking. How far ahead we could be if people served their country with integrity and honesty.maybe people enjoy it, they keep voting the stupids into power,
so obviously they are doing something right.
