Three police rifles and seven pistols are now in the hands of criminals after police officers at Devon Police Station in Ekurhuleni were robbed of firearms.

National Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said they have now actioned "maximum resources" to recover the firearms.

She said provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela was on Wednesday visiting the station, which was robbed in the early hours of the morning."According to a preliminary investigation, three suspects entered the station during the early hours of Wednesday morning under the pretence that they were reporting a hijacking incident."

"The trio then managed to disarm officers and made off with the 10 firearms," she said.

Mathe said the Employee Health and Wellness unit had been sent to the station to provide psychosocial services to the officers.

Maybe our cat in the hat can spare a few of his personal protection army to guard the SAPS offices.

Not going to happen ofcourse with him fast asleep at the wheel when not frothing at the mouth about disarming law abiding citizens....

And these are the people that are supposed to protect us? It would be hilarious if not so fckng sad.
Police stations are service centres not high security zones so robbing them is much easier than some people think. Perhaps it's now a good idea for access control measures to be implemented since such incidents are happening more often, which defeats the whole purpose of the stations being accessible community service centres.

Or maybe just have well trained, competent and alert officers rather? Dump the fat lazy garbage.

It won't really make much of difference in the current environment, a criminal has way more advantage as things are, the only way to deal with the situation is to be proactive about it through screening and access control, which as I said is going to bring about other challenges, unless you want cops to be pointing guns at everyone and treating all of us like criminals when we go there to make use of the SAPS services.

The problem here is not the cops at the station, it's the whole thing, general lawlessness in society, will the cops be certifying documents or writing affidavits with one hand on the gun just in case some lowlife comes in and want to rob the place? Then what, gunfight right there with everyone running for cover and the unfortunate ones dying in the gunfight?

The environment is totally different and the alertness will never be at that level, simply because the cops at that level are working with people who are there for services, I would understand the alertness at an army base, some cash depot or something at a similar security level, the police station is not at that level.

Okay so you three, you come into the station to report a hijacking and as you get to the word 'HIJACKING' you shout that word and pull out your guns and point them at us. We cry and beg for you not to hurt us and then you go to the safe marked with a large 'X' on the map over here...
