So… the video evidence must show something incriminating, but it is vague whether the suspect in the video is the same suspect, Zandile, as they have taken into custody and now being heard in court.

I would have thought that the NPA to have already had the video material enhanced and authenticated? The same with the suspect’s clothing. Forensic issues still persist?

Mpofu says Zandile Mafe has been treated very badly. Says he is an intelligent man, probably above the rest of us and can have an opinion. Prosecutor says the difference is, he allegedly acted on his beliefs. Possible reserved judgment.

...

Judgment was reserved at the late hour of 9.10pm in Zandile Mafe's bail application at a special sitting of the Cape Town Regional Court on Saturday. It will be handed down on 4 Feb.

February 4th it is...

I always thought that the Goolum character was serious, I mean,

at no point was that ever made known. The public is muddling the merits. I even see some other popular political Tweeps with some odd views,

now would be the best time to wait until the trial, the above public sentiment is playing very much to the accused's advantage.

At this point in time, it is all alleged. The police should have interviewed the accused with a legal representative at his side.

Problem with platforms like Twitter is that everyone talks past each other instead of sometimes talking to each other, that results in very ill informed opinions not being challenged, like the guy who is talking about the President enforcing laws.

I somehow don't expect this case settled anytime soon:
It will drag on and on for pretty much ever...

They can't scratch too far if you ask me, because there is almost no way that this guy acted on his own with this tragedy, so they will dither and dither for as long as possible... pretty much like the July Riots, we'll never actually see anything concrete from those "investigations"

Court rules against observation for Parliament arson accused, Zandile Christmas Mafe

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape High Court has found that no justification existed for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation referral for accused Parliament arsonist, Zandile Christmas Mafe.

The court found that such a referral was “substantively and procedurally flawed, which resulted in a gross irregularity” and has accordingly been set aside.

Acting judge Raadiyah Wathen-Falken said Mafe’s counsel should have been granted the opportunity to present their evidence to challenge the district surgeon’s assessment - in which Mafe was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia - which could have been presented at the bail hearing.

Judge Wathen-Falken said this course “would have best informed the magistrate in his decisions as to bail and any potential orders in terms of the Criminal Procedures Act (CPA)”.

“The evidence on record demonstrates to this court that the magistrate did not at any point thoroughly consider the gravity of his decision to refer Mafe for psychiatric evaluation and how same would impact on his personal freedom and human dignity.

Do any of us really care about this case in reality?

It will be exactly the same as the July Riots, a few low level people will get a slap on the wrist and nothing more.
