I find these "unemployment" figures hard to swallow. Sure, these people may not have formal 8-5 salaried jobs, but I'll bet plenty of the unemployed live off grannies grant, odd jobs and domestic work. But they won't claim to have a "job" for obvious reasons.

If unemployment was really such a problem, how do you explain the thankless, glum attitudes of the people we employ, like they couldn't give a F if you fired them tomorrow. I can't explain it unless they don't need the money.

Suprised nobody is mentioning the rate at which some breed as a part cause of the unemployment figures.

My garden and landscape executive has 3 children and is struggling financially. I mean really struggling. CanNOT make ends meet. His wife is employed as our Chief Executive Officer of interior management. She pitched up the other day happy as a pig in poo. We enquired to the reason for the happiness. 4 months pregnant. There is barely work for the parents. Surely it stands to reason chances will not be better for the kids.

Actually this too. ^ Go and see any checkers or pick n pay teller if you are wondering about the F-U attitude of many people towards their jobs. Same as the stories about the economy being bad. Bull crap if one measures how utterly crap service is in every single industry!

Just remember they get R400 a pop for the offspring.

PS: Be careful, if you employ husband and wife they might gang up on you one day and make off with your stuff.

They do not work on the same days. And I randomly go home on days they work. But yeah, unfortunately in this day and age, that thought is in my mind.

How does his business continue to operate if he needs so many employees but is afraid to hire due to Labour laws? Is it a one man show? I think he is exaggerating his hiring capabilities.
I do not know about this guy's situation but I mentioned few times my friend's engineering company.

He went from 37 employees (due to BEE contract cancellations, people wanting to insert themselves as intermediaries (transnet was one of his customers) and various other employment policies) to only 3.

He now does low volume, high precision work, makes bit less money but without stress and pressure that running his previous outfit was.
What really pains me is to see all those machines basically standing most of the time.

Personally I have few projects that I was keen to start which could employ few people but at the end I decided not to pursue it.
Labour laws were not as much issue for me as security since they would be run from home.

I am just waiting for everyone to tell their story, then I am going to come with the Mother of all stories, just putting a few finishing touches to it, it's going to be legendary.
And by 2020 I promise you even more promises. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

My gardener is from Zim and a month ago his wife gave birth to third child, he is good guy but I honestly do not know why in his situation he decided to have more kids.

There is huge population explosion and current economy nor infrastructure can not sustain it.
If I'm not mistaken in 2017 we got to 1 million kids born that year.

Now we all understand why Chinese government went with one child policy many years ago.

Snap. Consider BEE and AA laws. Consider customs being moronic and asking for things that makes no sense. Rather keep the money, don't invest into the future like our forebears did, but keep it liquid.
