Breaksclusive: Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi follows Huawei onto US blacklist

Nokia aka HMD Global which is Finnish.
Nokia make great phones, its amazing how badly choosing Windows mobile rather than Android backfired on them.
It seems once SA moved away from the Nokia craze of the late 90's early 2000's then they pretty much shunned the brand from then on.

There Android One phones are highly liked.

There is legitimate reasons to be concerned about China. Not just because of China's very long history of human rights abuses inside there own country, butt also their expansionist nature, human rights abuses on neighboring countries, communist ideology...
Except for communist ideology, You just described USA policy

Nokia doesn't produce and manufacture their phone's anymore. That is done by Foxconn...and they Chinese too.....

Where will this banning Chinese stuff stop???

Foxxcon manufactures for a lot of brands, Apple is an example of one.
I think there is a shakeup coming for manufacturing after Covid and seeing what happens when one country manufactures devices on behalf of many other countries.

Are you afraid of South Africa for the same reasons?

Foxconn manufacture Apple.
Ironically they also manufacture Xiaomi.
This issue with Xiaomi is about software though.

Foxconn do a lot
BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Kindle, Nintendo 3DS, Nokia devices, Xiaomi devices, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and several CPU sockets, including the TR4 CPU socket on some motherboards.

I guess US can blacklist anything/anyone in the name of security - even without proof.
Security is the new "Just think of the children" or "War on Terror"

Xiaomi does not sell / have shops / have offices in the US.

Xiaomi only offers a small selection of accessories for sale in the US through Mi.com. There are no plans to sell smartphones through any authorised distributors in the US.

Who do you think will be the next company blocked?
  • Oppo (OnePlus)
  • Lenovo
  • Vivo
  • BBK
  • Hisense
  • TP-Link

When he looked around the Web on the device’s default Xiaomi browser, it recorded all the websites he visited, including search engine queries whether with Google or the privacy-focused DuckDuckGo, and every item viewed on a news feed feature of the Xiaomi software. That tracking appeared to be happening even if he used the supposedly private “incognito” mode.

The device was also recording what folders he opened and to which screens he swiped, including the status bar and the settings page. All of the data was being packaged up and sent to remote servers in Singapore and Russia, though the Web domains they hosted were registered in Beijing
