I prefer brick & mortar because I'm pretty impulsive.

I see that large TV and PS4 in the window and I want it now. Instant gratification ftw ;)

This is Africa... For example Takealot and Kalahari merging to increase scale and be more competitive... International articles and trends doesn't really translate in to Africa, ask Whitey Basson.

The small percentage of online sales in South Africa can't compare with foot traffic, mobile might be increasing among lower LSMs throughout Africa but the day of them spending money through those mobile phones are far away. A lack of infrastructure doesn't make it viable for 99% of consumers.

Problem is that the TV in the window is usually an inferior model to what you could get online. B&M works for clothing but electronics and toys, not so much. And no, these cyber dressing rooms don't work. One simply has to try that item of clothing on, to see if it fits and looks good and matches other stuff, and online virtual dressing rooms don't do that. Even shoe sizes can be problematic. Buying shoes online is a problem as even the same maker's sizes vary across styles. At least now I'm used to Mephisto sizes but I had to get at least one pair which was the wrong size before things worked. And at $350+shipping+VAT+duty for a pair of Mephisto Match shoes, getting the wrong size is not a good option.

50% of my xmas gifts were bought online this year, the expensive ones. El cheapo stuff i got from brick and mortar.

Takealot is equally as instantly gratifying AND you get the added rush of a PARCEL arriving via courier :)

Their daily deal marketing was superb, service flawless. They and yuppiechef got most of my money this year.

95% of my gifts for xmas last year were bought online... and most of it was bought in the last week in November... I'll certainly be doing it again this year!

Never to forget avoiding the mall rush and possibly more importantly the mall robberies.

Yes there's nothing quite like waiting for a parcel to arrive… and waiting… and waiting.
