I deleted it halfway through S01E01...it's really, really bad.

And I normally love this kind of period drama.
The storytelling is terrible in the sense of being unbelievable, but I'm watching it to the end... the characters aren't the worst.
As for the meaning of the term "Singapore grip". Really??? LMAO. The guy should have gone with another title.

grip = the rubber angle of the story?

More suitable for The Grand Tour....

But yes it makes no sense for that show or time period.

I really love time period dramas normally, but from the fake cheer in S01E01 when
that Jap plane gets shot down
and then David Morrissey trying to do a clenched teeth posh Colonial accent....I couldn't delete quick enough.

LOL, nothing wrong with SDTV when the story is worthwhile.
GIven I only watch most stuff once...
Doesn't look as good as 1080p on 4K TV.
Plus if you are only watching it once why not in the best pic that you can :)

Maybe my eyes are just very forgiving. If there's something I should be seeing that needs to be in 1080p or higher, it's too small to see to start with.

err, that was the title of the book.

err, OK...

The show is so pathetically kak, that I didn't even bother reading up on it so didn't even realize it is based on a book.

The fact that it is the title of the book is not a dead giveaway about the meaning of the title, now is it?

Apparently the book is really good.

And book reviews allude to the meaning of the title... Which had little bearing on the storyline but anyway.

I haven't watched "The Singapore Grip" yet, but I have given it to my mother-in-law. She asked what it was about, I said I didn't know.... Should I be worried??? Are there "bedroom toys" in it?

This'll be great. I remember it on the news when I was a youngster. Starting next week, 14th Sept.

Dramatisation of the life of Dennis Nilsen, played by David Tennant, of the convicted serial killer and necrophile who killed at least 12 men and boys in the late 70s/early 80s..

Episode 1 is out.

Plus the review ... David Tennant excels as a perfectly ordinary serial killer

Yep, grabbed the first episode this morning, looks as great as expected. The next two are broadcast over the next two evenings and I'm not sure whether to watch them one a night or do all three together?
I'm waiting for all three together...this gon' be good.
