works out to R29 per gig but their "adsl rental" is included in everything. basically even india are 15 times cheaper than us

Errr..what am I missing here? It doesn't look cheap to me. Last I checked there were 1000 Mb in a Gb? (OK, 1024 to nitpick.) That's R0.20 per Mb -> R200 per Gb -> R6000 for 30Gb?

Currently Telkom’s HomeDSL 384 service with 2 GB of traffic will cost consumers R 558-00. This is around 15 times (1500%) more expensive than the 256 ADSL offering in India.

It'll be R366 for 2Gb on the BSNL account in India* - still cheaper but hardly 15 times.

* R36.50 + R0.2*1648Mb = R366, unless there's some typo w.r.t to the rate per Mb.

So is more than 1Gb seen as "heavy use" in India then? Not a comforting picture given the rumoured upcoming per/Gb billing by Telkom.

I agree that 400M is low, but for that price it is not bad. I think we should also look at their other packages before critisizig this pricing structure. They might have packages for high end users at a reasonable price...

They also have a 1Mbps package with a 10GB cap for around R500 and an uncapped 128kbps connection for around R300. I'm sure there must be even better deals available.
