Brother laser printer: generic vs oem cartridge

Any first hand experience with Brother generic cartridges? Maybe which brand are better. And can they damage printer over the long term?

The TN-3467 cartridge I bought for R1500 6 months ago is now price R2200 - R2500, vs generic ones around R600.
