Hi guys,

Okay, I have an irratating problem - I have a PC that I can't format - I'm simply not allowed too - basically the PC works fine, however, if I open Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox or even Chrome, they open, but at some point, they crash 'hang' etc and I have to C+A+D, end the process and open them again.

What could be the problem?

The PC is connected to a Mega 105WR ADSL router, and it's connected wirelessly.

1. I've reset IE to defaults
2. I've reinstalled IE
3. I install Firefox but it also crashes
4. I installed Chrome but it also crashes
5. I've installed and run Spybot - found nothing.
6. I've installed Malware, ran it, found nothing.
7. It has MSE installed and updated, did a full scan, found nothing.
8. I've installed NOD32 BE, updated, ran full scan, found nothing.
9. Did full Windows updates, after they are done, PC still does the same thing.

The PC itself is a XP Pro / SP3 and a fairly nice PC, the crashing only happens when you use the browser.

So... quite a few hours since my post and no one has any ideas?

I was thinking maybe it's the wireless (internet related) and trying to run a cable from the router might help but as I said, I was just thinking it was that.
I haven't run a memory test or a hard drive test yet, but the PC is fine - it's just when you use the browsers problems show up.

Can you boot from a linux live cd and browse the net to see if you have the same problem?

Seriously? - every browser crashes! There's something drastically wrong there - they should all be rock solid stable.

I just don't know if it's a hardware issue or software. I'm actually thinking it's probably software - something in the Windows network stack or something.

I have not tried this... I will give it a shot.

Yes, every browser crashes at some point, IE just does it the fastest, Firefox also does it and so does Chrome.
I'm thinking that it has to obviously be network related, but I'm not sure where exactly to start, the PC in question is not set on DHCP, it's got set IP's because the router, when set to do it's own thing, just doesn't bloody work properly :(

Can't you reinstall windows xp (upgrade option to retain settings and programs) ? Might just be a fault in windows files?
