Hi all
I am considering starting the BSc Informatics degree through UNISA.
Has anyone got any experience with this degree?

My problem is that I don't meet the Mathematics requirement.
I am 29 and I've been working in IT since 18. I've been working as a MSSQL DBA/Developer for the last 7 years.

Does anyone have any advice as to how I can get accepted for this degree?

Thanks

Tim

Start with btech and apply to swop over once you have brilliant marks? Also, informatics isn't that hectic on maths is it? Thought it's just the CompSci.

My biggest problem now is getting hold on UNISA.
When someone does actually answer, they aren't able to help me.

Go to a UNISA campus. Sure, it may be a schlep but you will save yourself a lot of time and possibly a few grey hairs.

I think you can apply for the unisa bsc informatics extended course, you do match first and 2 language module if you pass you start doing the informatics modules.

COS1511 - Introduction to Programming I
COS1512 - Introduction to Programming IIPre-requisite: COS1511
COS1521 - Computer Systems: Fundamental Concepts
FAC1502 - Financial Accounting Principles, Concepts and Procedures
INF1505 - Introduction to Business Information Systems
INF1511 - Visual Programming I
INF1520 - Human-Computer Interaction I
MNB1501 - Business Management IA

I always looked at the exam dates and chose the modules that gave me the most amount of time to study.

haha - the biggest gaps between exam dates?

Anyway, I would go with the following (on the assumption that these are all semester modules)

S1
COS1511 - Introduction to Programming I
INF1505 - Introduction to Business Information Systems
COS1521 - Computer Systems: Fundamental Concepts
MNB1501 - Business Management IA

S2
COS1512 - Introduction to Programming II Pre-requisite: COS1511
FAC1502 - Financial Accounting Principles, Concepts and Procedures
INF1520 - Human-Computer Interaction I
INF1511 - Visual Programming I

Depending on the amount of time you have, 8 modules in a year might be ok for First Year subjects (they are pretty easy compared to subsequent years). In 2nd/3rd Year you might need to focus on 6ish modules a year.

+1 on that. Taking COS1512 and 1511 the same semester could be a train smash, assuming you have no programming experience.
