following this thread, want to see what people recommend,
personally I would go used S10 or Samsung of some sort but used from like epic deals, but lets see what people recommend.

I'm looking at Nokia right now, pixel would be awesome if they sold it here.
oneplus maybe?

even something left field like this LG G7, see lots of threads on XDA to keep it updated with custom firmware

I bought the redmi 13c for R2500, received it today, it comes with battery pack as well.

Its an upgrade from my redmi 6a which served me well for close to six years, but I'm not really a phone person and the bigger size is a bit off putting.

Also struggling to get autorecord phone calls enabled on the 13c, so I may go back to my 6a as voice call phone and use the new phone for taking pics.

the bigger size will prove useful for video calls and video stuff like youtube etc once you get used to carrying around

I leave my phone in the flat when I'm out and about, only when I leave the CBD (very rarely) do I take it with

I just use the phone for whatsapp and receiving calls, I've never really grown attached to a device, I still prefer a keyboard and a mouse to interact with the internet.

Does the 13C have NFC?

Xiaomi Redmi A3 3+64GB LTE
Quick Spec
Display - 6.71" Dot Drop Display
Memory - 3GB RAM | 64GB ROM
Camera - Rear Camera: 8MP | Front Camera: 5MP
SIM - Dual SIM
Battery - 5000 mAh | 10W charging

R1,799 R1.699 using the app.

I got this for a retired worker. Screen is big; but then the text can be made bigger too. She only uses a phone for WhatsApp and calls.

I have a Redmi, Note 8, myself and am happy with it.

Redmi is too unreliable. I would rather get Something ike the Samsun A05

IMO, always better value for money for tech in the refurb/second hand market. Just do a lot of research and take all measures to make sure the seller is legit.

I hope to get my next phone as a refurb.

I have a Remi Note 8 bought July 2020. No issues with it. Perhaps I have been lucky. But I was also lucky with the Redmi before that.

I like the look of the Samsung Galaxy A05 64GB LTE Dual Sim above but at R2029 it is R200-300 more expensive albeit with 4gb RAM vs 3gb and likely a better phone overall. I wasn't aware of it, going straight to Redmi.

It is a gift going to a rough home. How a phone is handled is a big factor in its longevity. Carrying your phone sticking half out the back pocket of your tight jeans seems crazy.

You probably sorted already but I have the X8 and I find that Honor is better quality than Xiaomi, its been great.

If you're set on buying new, Motorola G14 for R2199. 4GB RAM, 64GB UFS storage (rather than EMMC), has NFC, side mounted fingerprint reader, 1080x2400 screen.

5000mAh battery but it seems to run out faster than the competition, and good lucky finding any accessories.

Got a Realme note 50 from Pep. Very good phone for the price (R1899).

I see it's actually cheaper online, though never bought from them before
Bought this online R1799 very good phone sold by Vodacom with 128GB storage, 13 mp camera and great size display so far so good and told it looks like an iphone
