Explosive growth of the company behind Temu and Shein's success in South Africa

Specialist China-Africa import and customs clearance provider Buffalo International Logistics has grown substantially in recent years, increasing its staff complement from around 33 people in 2022 to 127 today.

Data from LinkedIn shows the company grew its operations staff by 78% in the past year and doubled the number of staff in support roles.

Unfortunately their whole system seems to be automated, without a service centre. I have been trying to contact a human for a week now, to change a phone number.

I've bought from Temu a few times this year, and compared to the utterly disastrous shipping times one gets when buying on Aliexpress or Wish, which both use the Post Office, buying with Temu is not only affordable but rather quick. While Buffalo could never dream to compete with DHL in terms of speed, they are by far faster than the Post Office and Aramex.

No surprises and nothing wrong either. If the government failed, the people failed, the private sector failed, it is just right that China comes in and take over. We need a functioning postal service and if they provide it, that is all that matters. Why sit with nothing else? Their successes and money should also not be shared with South Africa as a failed state. They pay salaries for those employed and that is more than enough.

Temu under presure as it takes far to long to deliver after you have paid import duty. Orders 28 April, has not moved since 9th May after taxes paid.

Given that you pay 0 for Buffalo shipping and you would pay something like R1200+ for DHL shipping plus higher customs processing fees, the two cannot be compared. I'm sure in due course Chinese couriers will also be DHL/FedEx level of speed.

On ET859 yesterday. an entire cargo pallet with just SHEIN goods being loaded into the aft cargo hold on it's way to Joburg

Noticed that as well recently . Could be off the mark here but holding on to import duties/taxes far longer than is necessary could be benefitting someones bank accounts

Not had the same issue at all, had a few deliveries over the last month, perhaps check with them what's the hold up.
