Buggy Windows Update makes PCs think everyone's printer is one specific HP model

Faulty metadata in Windows updates have been blamed for the sudden appearance of the HP Smart app on numerous PCs that were never connected to any of the company's hardware, Windows Latest reports.

The issue was reported widely last week after several users on Reddit and Windows Latest journalist Maynak Parmar said the app was automatically installed on their systems without any user input.

Windows update.

Microsoft backdoor onto your PC to make it worse.

For the first time in our company's 20 years in IT MSP services, we are trailing user workstations with Linux (Linux Mint Cinnamon and Debian with Plasma desktop)

So far it's working disturbingly well. Especially for companies that are office 365 based. Office 365 runs very well in Firefox on Linux.

Have also been running this stuff on Linux. Works especially well with Office 365 components installed as progressive web apps.

Sorry, not everyone... Just a bunch of people... Sometimes it's good to investigate properly before copying others

Windows 11 one can expect something like this to happen. But it is time Microsoft stop updating Windows 10. At least one OS that might keep on working.
