I have been complaining about this kicking game SA has adopted since inception of it ;)

1) We will play much better if we keep the bloody ball instead of giving the opponents free possesion.

2) The other team can't score if you have the ball. And you can only score if you have the ball. That is how rugby is played.

3)Tactical kicking is good but then make sure it's out. Don't kick down field.

1) With the new rules it is a lot harder to protect the ball when attacking, thus driving 5m then driving anther 5 then loosing it is not worth it.

2) Like I said go have a look at how many turnovers there are in every game.
Also the way rugby was played 15 years ago would have seen players like spies and juan smit never selected for even a provincial side. The game changes and if you do not change with it you will lose.

3) How do you want to make sure it is out? No player not even dan carter can make sure he gets it to bounce infield before going into touch more than 3/10 times with 2 players back 90% of the time.

This is tactical kicking, and we are not doing to badly with it mind you ;)

in the 1st 5 games our gameplay was far from perfect, I have never been a supporter of kicking possession away.

and besides we played against the stormers in one of them, Did I say that out loud?xD

Lol, we also crushed the blues with that same tactic ;)

The Bulls must check first BEFORE they pass. They keep losing the ball by passing it to nothing.

I don't mind kicking for defense or field possession, but kicking the ball when your in their half sounds pointless to me.

No way.

The game is still about keeping possesion and having awesome fetchers. The reason we are losing ball is because of:

1. Lack of support at the break down.
2. Lack of numbers at the break down. (The crusaders are at the break down in huge numbers when the bulls have 3 or 4 )

Have a look.

Yes like I said when we won the first 5 games it looked like it wasn't working. :)
Yes like any plan it has flaws, but at least even when we are looking like we are having a bad day we look dangerous and a lot better than most previous years.

Lol, then there is nothing wrong with their kicking tactics, you are complaining about something else completely.

We lost. Game is over.

:( Yeah is sad but at least we got the bonus point.

If we get one more victory in the tour we will be ok. (yes we need another bonus point from somewhere as well).

Bulls are looking good with the ball in hand and yes we could kick a little less (mind you by that I mean 30% less).

at least this game is a lot better then last week although I still think we are 1) kicking to much , 2) ball handling needs improvement and 3) we are running in a straight line, although It did improve from previous games.

Not true.

It's part of the same thing. They are playing a kicking game, meaning they need chasers for the ball. Thus they are committing less to people to the break down. If you keep the ball tight you have 8 players ready for the break down any given time of the game.

The bulls are masters of this and have been playing like that for years and years. That is why they are the best team in SA. Notice that the Sharks have now developed the same game tactics with keeping the ball tight.

Since Heineke Meyer left the bulls are trying to play kicking rugby. There is a steady decline in the old game play which you still see in their games. But it's slowly being replaced with kicking and running rugby. They should just stick to the basics, keep the ball in hand and win ground gradually. By doing so you wear down the opposition and tire them down. That way you have the last 30 minutes to run circles around them.

Like I said, if you kick for territory make sure it's out. Don't kick down field. At the line out you have a 50% chance to regain the ball again. As to where if you kick the ball down their throats the odds of them kicking the ball back at you is very slim.

Keep the ball, play it close to the forwards and gain ground meter by meter. after about 5 phases move the ball to the other side of the field. Rinse and repeat. By the second set of phases the gaps will start opening up.

bulls have always been famous for their 10man none kicking rugby. It is the same style that won England the worldcup in 2003.

100% correct.

And now the Sharks are playing that same game. And look how far it brought them ;)

Lol! Hahahaha, yes because the 4 or 5 guys running to regain the ball is nowhere near the break point. Also by having 8 players at the break down and being neutralized by 4 oposing players is great rugby. I mean you can see how bad the style of play is by just looking at the NZ national side and their S14 sides I mean they are never in the top half.......

Yes that worked great for us in all the years of super rugby

Even when we won the S14 we were playing more running rugby than ever before. That record winning game against the reds was not won by 10 man rugby

yes when you did not receive the ball in your 1/4 then how are you going to make sure its out with two players back to field it and you not being able to kick it out directly? The rules have changed, notice than?

Yes and in fase two or three the ball will be stolen because the RULES HAVE CHANGED. Deal with it the contest at the breakdown is a lot more open now.

Under different rules ;)

You guys do know we are playing with a new set of rules right?

No; as much as the rules have changed so too they have stayed the same.

You keep talking about these "rules"

Pls explain to me these "rules" you are referring too. And yes one can still kick out a ball any place on the touch line from any where on the field if it touches the game play part first. When last did you see a grubber for the touch line ?

Sorry but no matter how you try and put it. The kicking game is not working. Never has and never will. With 10 man rugby the running game starts from there. This is not 7's you need to build up a good foundation for an offensive attack and that starts with the forwards. No matter what you say, you know it's the truth.

ROFL yes I mean I have seen the most successful teams play 10 man rugby

PB when last have you seen a grubber that won 40m of field? How many fases would it take to win 40m of field?

Wake up the rules have changed a lot. For incase you have missed it.

A layman's understanding, condensed:

* Penalties will be awarded only for offside, foul play including repeated offences and not entering through the "gate" at the tackle. All other offences will earn a free kick.

* Touch judges have been given extended roles to assist referees by judging offsides, while the corner and in-goal posts have been moved 2m back from the touchline.

* If a ball is passed or taken back into the 22 area and then kicked out on the full, the lineout will form in line from where the ball was kicked.

* Sides do not need equal numbers in the lineout, and on a quick throw-in, the ball can be thrown straight or backwards towards the defenders' goal line, but not forward towards the opposition goal line.

* Once a tackle is made, there is an immediate offside line while the halfback cannot be touched unless he has his hands on the ball. Players involved in the breakdown area must be on their feet and must enter through the gate and if the ball becomes unplayable, the defending side will earn a free kick.

* If a maul becomes unplayable, the side defending the start of the maul receives a free kick.

* The offside line for backs other than the halfback at a scrum is 5m behind the last man's feet.

ROFLMAO @ bold part: No PB you would like to convince yourself its the truth. I know that if our ball handeling was better today and steyn's kicks at gaol was better then we would have beaten the Crusaders.

No use in arguing this with you.

The rules you quoted actually proves nothing in the kick vs maul argument. But your entitled to your view. I do however know the majority of the SA rugby supporters do not support this kicking rugby.

Lol, yes I forgot you are head couch and you speak to all 10 million rugby supporters daily ;)

Wow, nicely done. Please while you are busy with the sensus could you find out what the majority of SA is thinking on a who could be a possible Springbok flyhalf for the SA vs BaIL tour?
