The fight between the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa) and Telkom is gaining momentum, but there's such dust being thrown up it's hard to know who to believe.

In one corner there is the lobby group MyADSL, which, if you have a look at its online forums, can be a bit too vitriolic to be entirely believable as an objective body. Nonetheless, we need our consumer activists because, inbetween the bias, there often lies a grain or two of truth.

Then there's Icasa. This typically stern but measured body has been hitting out harder than ever lately and its latest report is particularly strong; at times it borders on barely disguised bouts of irritation.

oops...saw another thread with same topic...mods please delete.

Hence the reason you should never sign a contract with Telkom

Who? Us? Never.

I admit I had to look up "vitriolic" in the dictionary to get the exact meaning. I wasn't very impressed with the journalist when I saw the definition.

Vitriolic - Maybe justified. Passionate - yes. We want only what we deserve - an fairly priced good service. We can but live in hope.

I wouldn't read much into "vitriolic" as one definition states it as, "Blistering Criticism", which is South Africa's way of expressing our disapproval of Telkom's Service and Products and the hefty prices they charge us for them.
Perhaps that journalist is happy with 56K and email?

Hi guys

I agree that the journalist should also look at our press releases and presentations before making these statements. We always back our statements up with facts or objective research…more than what Telkom or many other groups can say. I think we are the most objective of the lot since we have no hidden agendas or vested interests apart from good service at a good price.

Regards,

RPM

Hi rpm, I wouldn't take it too seriously. It was just an opinion piece, and to be honest, a visitor to the forums who had no idea of the history of the complaints might be a bit surprised at how vehemently anti-telkom most of the posters are.

As someone said, there's no such thing as bad publicity (unless you're Telkom;)). I'm sure that the article at least piqued the interest of a few people to see what myADSL is all about.

The problem for a court case would be, that Telscum reserves the right to alter ANY contract as they please. You should check it out. But anyway, a hearty welcome to the forum!!!
