Hi guys

Lately i have fallen in love with old classic cars that are restored and i have never built one myself but i am familiar with cars and mechanics so quick question to those who have done it before.
-Is it more expensive to rebuild a classic than buying a normal car?

It really depends on the cars

which classic car are you considering and which "normal" car are you considering?

What is your budget?

I wouldn't bother restoring a car with that budget but it does depend on the car and your views

your budget is too small, get a normal car, a good respray job will set you back atleast 10k, thats excluding the cost of the car and if you want to pimp out the car a set of rims with good tyres will also set you back atleast 10k

thats excluding the cost of the actual car which may be another 10k atleast and you still have to do the motor and interior

Imo, only restore an old car if you want a weekend car/hobby. Otherwise, better to buy a running one.

You budget is about 5 times too small to do a proper restoration job.

Why would you go and "pimp" a classic, It will loose its value and you will be frowned upon! I'm busy Restoring my 80' Ford Escort 1600 Sport and like everyone have already said that budget is way too small, trust me! Restoring the mechanical side only wouldn't even be covered by that! Importing the right parts gets expensive.

I think maybe i should make it a project and not to rush it cause it looks like its gonna cost me a whole lot of moola

It is a project, dont ever think it will be quick.
I have a project car in my garage, (1939 Straight 6 Chev) and i can tell you it is not a simple undertaking.

What sort of car are you looking at 4 cylinder, 6 or v8 ? What make of car ?

If i had to do it all again i would rather have bought a licenced, roadworthy runner off gumtree.

To find classic cars on gumtree under the year section enter year - from 1900 to 1975 , there are some really pricey numbers, but also some worthwhile bargains, shop around.

I agree, I only restore cars that are in good condition.

Bad condition cars I will buy and strip as donor cars. Unless the OP has experience restoring cars he is set to throw a lot of money down a black hole.
