Heh, I was going to say, R500-600K? I won't buy a house for that price, because of the area that it would be in!

Constantia Kloof is a better area than the others he listed, but I guess he hopes to get a better/bigger house in a different area.

Correct :)

And in all honesty, I could never afford to buy a house in Constantia Kloof

Pitbull, some people are very snobbish. So daspoort is like saying attridgeville or something. And yes, I know what the houses around there are like, I know someone that stays 5 houses from the Total before the tunnel. Totally different vibe that from Garsfontein for example. Houses built differently.

Hey I grew up in Mountain view

Sure it's a step down from Mountain view but it's still a nice area to live in :)

Nothing wrong with that either, I know people who stay there too, and my aunt stays in Mayville area and some other friends stay in Wonderboom South. Its just people seem to be very snobbish and I think a lot of people from say, the east for PTA are so snobbish, they'd ratehr die than live in those areas. I think houses in those areas are actually a good deal, you get much better space than these crampy new complexes in the east.

I agree fully.

And those are close knit people in those areas. That is why crime is not a factor in those suburbs :)

I'd even buy a house in Danville if there is a nice house there for sale :)

I would rather stay in a small house in a better area, but sometimes an area develop a better/worse reputation with the passing of time.

A mate of mine stays in Elandspoort.

Sure the people in Danville/Elandspoort is poor. But you do get some smart and wealth people staying there. Crime is a drop in the ocean in these places. You get some stunning houses there. Sure the majority of the people are poor and suffering but you do get the lany streets ;)

Location is important, but if you are going for buy to rent route, its better to invest in 3 properties in lower income areas than say one property in the very nice area. First of all, you might get more profit from the renting of the 3 than the big one. The risk (a renter defaulting and other issues) is more spread out as well.

I like this thread...

And i tend to agree that the west isn't as bad as it seems.

In Pretoria Gardens are BEAUTIFUL houses and they're not these crappy complexes, I can't imagine living in a complex letting someone hear what i have to say to my family or what i've done today. NO THANK YOU.
