Value?

Fast forward 4 years, presuming that is e finance period. Would you rather want to sell an AMG that is just about to finish its motor plan or the Nissan that is 9 years old? I suspect you will lose less on the Nissan

Guys which one do you agree would sell for more in about 5 years time? The GT-R (2010) or The A45 (2016)?
Also if i trade in the A45 a few years down the line i can still consider the GTR-R.

My view is that the GTR will hold its value better compared to the A45.

The GTR already has cult status, Youtube is filled with clips of it taking on UGR Lambos.

The A45 will just be part of the hot hatch brigade, none of the hot hatches stand out (except for the limited releases like the Ford RS) and it being overpriced will not help its desirability.

For once I agree with saturnz.

You won't lose much on the GT-R unless they bring out some other version. But it will surely hold it's value better than the Merc. Just too many hot hatches in that price range and people will go for the more flashy ones like the RS as an example.

There's a new GTR coming out next year, so the price might not hold as well as some people would hope. The GTR would most likely hold it's value better as the brunt of the depreciation is already done when compared to a new A45.

Remember the A45 is an epic piece of engineering (265KW from a 2L engine!!!), you could do a lot worse for that price. For your usage, the A45 is the better car and you can really scare some of the other cars mentioned in this thread (M3 I'm looking at you).

I was in a situation similar to yours, I chose to go with the car with the maintenance plan as it just gave me more peace of mind - if something broke the maintenance plan would fix it. I dont want to spend so much of money and still worry about maintenance.

265kw is not epic, they simply running more boost than other cars (1.7 bar), the other hot hatches are capable of the same if you spend 200k on them

This is a stock standard from the factory car - if you spend 200k on another car it could (would?) exceed the price of the A45, void the warranty and probably not be as reliable either.

Compare apples to apples :) Yes, you can get modded cars that are faster than an A45 or a GTR, but thats not a fair comparision.

I refer back to my previous point, if you are worried about a warranty you shouldn't be purchasing cars like these.

I remember a guy who bought a Ford Focus RS brand new, turned up the boost and ran 12s at Killarney.

In any event, 200k was a huge exaggeration, speak to anyone running modified GTIs and the average spend on getting 300kw would probably be more towards R100k.

Edit: If you are really worried about a warranty of some sort on the motor, it would be best to modify the car when its new so that the reputable tuner would be confident to provide a warranty on his work and probably the engine as well- you do know there was an aftermarket twin turbo Aventadore almost as soon as it was released.

That is hardly epic. Plenty of subarus making more than that. Take the extra cash and save it. We had two A45s' at our trackday this year. They were epically slow on both the drags and the timed laps.

But back tot he topic. The A45 is boring, the GTR is exciting to drive.

Yeah but surely that's compared to other sedans.

I can't for a moment think the A45 would offer more.

Also that's the 2-door version in your video.

I test dove the A45. Never been in a GT-R, but what from others have said about it, the A45 has far superior back space. And as to the OP - A45 all the way (assuming you are not going to look at any other vehicles). All this talk of the GT-R being a super-car killer is a bit irrelevant - how many super-cars do you see on the road; much less have a chance to dice with?

Plus I would look at a second hand one now - I have seen a couple advertised (2013; 2014 models) lately in the R550k - R590k range. If these had been around late last year I might have changed my mind on what I did buy.

Yeah I was largely going on the 4-door factor and what I knew of the older models, not having seen the new one from the inside.

I would do a whole lot of shopping outside this selection if it was my money. Second hand Cayman S comes to mind.

It's not just a supercar killer, it is a supercar...

The thing is, nobody else will think that. Look at all the posts previously - they call it a super-car killer. Not a super-car that can take out other super-cars. And for all the comment's saying, "if you can afford the money, you don't need to worry about a maintenance plan" - well, that is nonsense. One of the reasons I bought my car at the price I did, was not to have to worry about very expensive repairs for 5 years or so. Makes a difference to me.

You mad bro?

People pay R 500k for a Golf... R 850k for a GT R is NOTHING. A supercar sub R 1m - bargain.

No bro you're mad. You forgot that the GTR is 5 years old and it's still a Nissan.
Guys are still paying premium for the GTI badge. Bud of mine just pulled out a brand new GTI R after selling his Ferrari.

Just a Nissan? Who cares. Every second Tom, Dick and Harry has a BMW, Merc or Audi. That badge means nothing these days, except to the thousands who buy them and delude themselves into thinking they're exclusive. My badge is a crappy Toyota, yet it turns more heads than all these overpriced hatchbacks...

Well, you are making a statement that you cannot back up with any sort of evidence, not so? I thought my car was relatively bland in terms of looks, but I have had experiences that go beyond "turning heads".

LOL :D
