Why don't you only get a very large UPS? Your router should not consume that much power.

If only going for 1kw, why not get a oversized UPS that can last you for say 3-4 hours. Or mayb a battery and inverter setup?

You need to get the battery up to charge as fast as possible with a charger (separate?) wihich charges at the batteries MAX recommended charge Amps. Then you will be fine:)

Try to get one double your usage, you don't want to drain a UPS battery fully (just from what I have gathered reading these threads).
Just check the wattage of the PC, the router does not use a lot of power, though you might have an issue of the line going down due to the batteries at the exchange running out.

Cheapish UPS about R800
Generator with AVR (mine is 2.7kw) about R4k for a decent one.

http://www.geewiz.co.za/long-run-up...-2-1000va-600w-ups-w-1-x-100ah-3-4-hours.html

Im saving for this ,should be able to run my pc fine. R4200 handles 600 watt for 3 hours.

http://www.geewiz.co.za/long-run-up...4-2000va-1200w-ups-w-2-x-100ah-6-8-hours.html

That one is good for 1200 watt ,will cost your R6200.

Look nice (both of them) the charger is the worry though. A SLA 100Ah battery can handle around 30Amps MAX charging current which is what you are going to need with frequent daily shedding. (More than once a day).

Anything less than throwing all the Current the battery can safely accept will just take too long and ultimately your batteries will die a slow death.

1000w genny with AVR: http://www.makro.co.za/diy/ryobi-1kva-petrol-generator-237823EA
To think this exact same genny was R1700 a year or so ago...

For R400 more you can get a 2300w unit http://www.makro.co.za/diy/ryobi-2-5kva-petrol-generator-134128EA. I do not think it comes with an AVR - check before buying.
Ryobi, the ones with the diagram of a pc with a line through it (like a no smoking sign).

i see game have a 2.5kw gen for 3k :D
Likely Stramm.
I called them about using with a pc, they said only if you have a ups.

Screw AVR.

I'm willing to bet you have at least a v2.3 PSU

The minimum input voltage 2.3 specifies is 180VAC
The maximum voltage 2.3 specifies is 265VAC

So it doesn't matter how schitty a generator you get it will work just fine.
