Hey, I'm buying a house for 550000, how much would the property lawyer cost? I've heard conflicting accounts of people claiming either 8k or 22k. Anybody know a good property lawyer?

As far as I know it is normal practice for the seller to have the right to choose the conveyancing attorney. The buyer just gets to pay. If you haven't already signed, it is usually a good idea to get your own attorney to check the contract, and that shouldn't cost too much.

Transfer cost: R15753
Bond Registration Cost: R15753
Initiation Fee R6050
The initiation fee might have been included in your Bond though.
These are estimates. It might be slightly lower or higher.
I am in the same boat... Mine comes to R53000. Had to sell my car to cover the costs.

bond costs seem high?

Costs when buying a house = much more than they tell you it will be.

Not quoting the transfer costs, by the looks of it. Which doesn't apply if it's a new build as far as I know.
My house was a new build. What you're trying to say is "when your house is registered for the first time at the deed's office, there's no transfer costs payable since the house has never belonged to anybody to transfer from".

I also thought that it applies to new houses under R900k, until I found out that my house was registered in the name of the construction company when I bought it :)

A lot of the places will advertise no transfer costs if they aren't in the developers name.
