Other than the deserved poor reliability index scores of Fiat and also having owned a Fiat thus knowing the awful build quality first hand, no absolutely nothing against Fiat.
Yeah, owning a 1978 131 is not the same as owning a 2010+ fiat, but ok.

I am considering buying a Fiat Punto 1.4 Emotion 2010 model, well priced.

How is Fiat support, spares?
Should be fine. That engine is still used in the 500L and the panda, so you should be able to get spares easily.

And your first purchase will be cam belt at R8000 +-
I never realised Italian cam belts were that expensive.

Seriously though, the previous owner could have already done the cambelt if not he could do it for much less than that, there is no hard and fast rules that cambelt replacements cost R8000.

I'd say don't do it because they are a lot like French cars. They break often and when they do, it normally costs an arm and a leg. My BIL owns one and it's cost him a small fortune over the last +- 4 years. I also have a co-worker who owns a Fiat and it's given him nothing but trouble.

My only beef with the car is the price, I feel R59k is a lot for a 2010 Fiat being bought at an auction.

pretend you own that specific one, call around and get service quotes for minor/major services, then call around to get an idea of trade in price, as it stands, year model, mileage etc. why is it well priced? insist on a full dekra report.
Dont put your faith in DEKRA , they are a useless company. I have proof that they dont bother checking the cars.

Statistically even today Fiat still experience among the highest number of problems per 100 vehicles sold. Their QA is horrendous.
Ahem:

The same survey puts the Fiat 500 (same engine as the OP) at 93%...

I'd buy it if the price was right. The new Fiats are very good actually, no more Russian Steel and bad electrics. Take the Panda, its much the same as the 500, any horror story's of Pandas or 500's? Id stay away from the Fiat's that were made for the 3rd world an built in South America.

Auctions are for chance takers like dealers who can take a hit from time to time, unless you are able to give the vehicle a full inspection and test drive, which at most auctions is not the case. You can score but it's easy to get an expensive lemon.
Market R57150
Retail R61900
Trade R52400
If the figures above are correct then on auction the price should start at around R30-40k

A family member had a mid 2000s Fiat Punto about 5 years ago, it gave head gasket trouble and this was at 60k kms.
She opted for it, because it had aircon, ew and other features (plus low mileage) for the same price as a citi golf or a corsa lite.
Suffice to say, she regretted that decision.
