I would want to buy lead 99.9 sheet, 6mm to 8mm thick, smooth or structured and half a ton of it - 500kg first and later more. I can buy it private or as company by a friend but need to find the best supplier reagarding quality and price.
I would prefer to buy locally produced material if this is good quality and does not come with too high a penalty pricewise.
Price for lead is at about USD 2000/ton I believe
It is for making batteries, serviceable ones, deep cycle. The idea is to put them into a standard transportable housing like a small container together with inverter and other electronics and to rent those as plug in solution to interested parties or to sell them with a service contract.
Generous dimensions, high acid to plate surface ratio and simple construction, service every 6 to 8 weeks at most with lots of use. Any bigger problems are resolved by exchanging the whole unit and overhauling this unit then in peace.
A lot of reading told me the best deep cycle battery has solid and thick lead sheets as plates microporous HDPE as separator and it is serviced, this way it will virtually hold forever if one regards the changing of positive plates as maintenance.
Electricity is not maintenance free, every approach to get near to this results in high costs, complexity and low lifetime. The electricty from the grid is also not maintenance free as we well know, we just have outsourced this to ESKOM. Now calling for a replacement solution which is not only cost neutral (ideally) but without maintenance is just a bit demanding. Maintenance of lead abtteries is not rocket science, why not employ somebody to do this, workforce is plenty and cheap.
