hi guys,
i need some help from the people who know's more than me about brand names vs performance when it comes to squash. which racquet combines best performance with decent price and offers latest technology?
i've been looking at the Wilson Triad hammer and some of Head's new ones, the Metallix range (Metallix 150 is available at my local sport shop). both the racquets are priced between R800-R900 where i live. can any1 with experiance please give advice, as i dont want to buy something expensive and then its not gonna be worth it!!! ;);)

Thanks

Hi there

Go to the Parkview Squash Club in JHB if you are close - their prices are very good and you can try out many different rackets before you buy. It may feel good in the shop, but Wilson is very different from Prince which is again different from Head or Dunlop. Only one way to find out if you like it and that is to play with it.

BTW: I use a Prince More Game - a nice racket if you want some power...

well, i live about 150km from jhb, but i think i will be able to go there at some point before i buy. thanks for the heads up though!! ;) i havent actully looked at prince...i went on heads' site yesterday and saw what they had to offer...currently on Wilson's but no link to show you whats to offer, like frame tech or special feature etc. ..i'm not a pro, but i dont want to buy those "149.99 special price, only for today" crap...i belive, if you want to buy something, buy quality once and get it over with....dont buy something just because its so much cheaper....in 2 months time you need to replace it and again and agian untill you end up spending as much, or more, than the quality one you actually really wanted!!!

I've got a wilson. Wilson is generally a very good make. And i've played with it, and very happy.

Wilson is indeed a good make, but I personally don’t like it. That is why it is best to try before you buy. I personally like the feel of Prince, Dunlop and Head – but head has a reputation of breaking easily while Dunlop did not have something nice on the market when I looked for a new racket. But you have to look at the new range of Dunlop rackets as well – looks well worth it for the price…

I had a R1200 Prince, which hit a wall.
Now I buy the R149 ones.

If u buy an expensive one, u tend to leave balls that are hit in the corner.

Looking at this thread makes me want to play again. I have not played in years and miss it.

Was such a good workout in 30 -45 mins. I played with the Dunlop Black Max, are they still around? Was a nice racket at a good price. Makro used to stock them.

Um yes that does tend to happen, until you get worked up about winning the next point and then your expensive racquet can also get a bit bumped about.

OK I am also starting out and need to get one.

Is the most affordable places Makro/Game for a reasonable quality racket or do you get it cheaper elsewhere?

would help if i knew area u lived in....
However, if u starting out, get yourself a cheap R250 racket from anywhere really. I would highly recommend splashing out on shoes though, squash is an incredibly demanding sport physically, and if you are in x-trainers you could end up paying for it.

For shoe advice, i recommend going to parkview squash club.
