When I pick up my telephone I hear a buzz on the line, I know this is because of my ADSL but I even hear it if I switch my router off. Will I still hear the buzz because the line is connected at the DSLAM end?

I've got filters on both my telephone jacks and they seem to work fine, my DSL doesn't drop when I make a call or anything.

It's a pretty consistent buzz though, not like line-noise.

Faulty connection or solder joint someplace?

do you have overhead telephone cables running close to an electric fence?

Or large amps and power supplies close to your phone cables?

Our line is *** noisy. The line is ancient and runs on the same poles as the electricity, about a meter below the power lines. Telkom has tried everything over the years to sort it out, but no luck. Could it be from the power lines?

Just strange that is only cropped up in the last week or so, never used to have it, and I've had DSL for quite a few months too.

Heh, what's up with your ancient PC specs ??

This sounds allot like EMI. There's not much you can do about this, unless you know the source - and that can be anywhere between you and the exchange.

I'd just log a call for a faulty line at Telkom, and let them sort it out... If it aren't causing problems, then it shouldn't be to much of a issue except for the sound...

I had buzz like that - it was my phone

We had a similar problem a while back. Turned out to be a faulty filter. Maybe try another filter.

Both my phones do it, both have filters, still does it when router is switched off.

Anyway, thanks, I'll try some things, maybe report it if it's a hassle.

Had the same problem and it turned out to be the Telkom telephone (well in our case at least).
Those Orion101 phones you see everywhere. There just trouble, we have about 3 of them and only 1 doesn't actually buzz (They all worked perfectly fine until one day mysteriously they started buzzing). It's very very annoying!
