BYD Shark hybrid bakkie could be a major disruptor to Toyota and Ford dominance

"These features might sound fantastic, but the big question mark in how compelling the Shark will be when it lands locally is its price tag."

Yeah that R750 000 estimated price tag is probably very optimistic. Probably 800K PLUS.

This is what happens when brands sit on their hands.

Yeah, cheaper to just charge your camp fridge with a portable power station or auxiliary battery and inverter and a few solar panels.

"Like all other BYD models currently sold in South Africa, the Shark also boasts vehicle-to-load (V2L), allowing users to power various appliances directly from the vehicle using an adapter.

This could be particularly advantageous to bakkie owners who frequently camp in bushveld areas without electricity or work in deeply rural areas where they might need to use tools like grinders, electric saws, and drills."

Those acceleration figures are suspicious.Especially the Ford ranger figures of 9.4s.

“The one advantage that the Hilux offers is better towing capacity — at 3,500kg compared with the Shark and Ranger Raptor’s 2,500kg.”

Toyota owners don’t tow, they just make videos of themselves pulling (wrestling) other cars

Waiting for this to get local release, think it's time for my new Ranger wildtrak to get replacement.

Its a nice looking vehicle, looks like it borrowed some queues from the Ranger though.

Also, without air suspension to drop it really low, what use is that 320KW? One hard corner and you're going to be rolling into the closest wall, mall and store until it comes to a stop. It also needs much lower profile tyres with a bigger wheel.

Real men park their cars at a 5* lodge for the concierge to take the vehicle and park it while your massage at the spa is prepared before check-in.

A Chinese vehicle with a lot of complicated electronics and components.
Of all things I want that is not one of them.

And it is irrelevant as under SA law you are not allowed to tow more than the mass of the tow vehicle, regardless of what it is rated at.

This is SA not Australia, a Hilux can’t legally tow 3.5tons here.
