The only problem you seem to have is that they're in opposition to your beloved ANC, and they may have gay members.

The only problem I have with the DA is that they are an ineffective opposition and at the current rate an ineffective ruling party - that is my problem - I welcome an effective opposition to the ANC, we need it in this country -

You're trying to walk that road again mr Homophobic Anti Social Always-Think-you're-right ANC Garden Boy Bigot?

I wait in anticipation of your PM :D :D :D

Meaningful opposition? You smoking crack with your cornflakes again? The ANC is too big to have meaningful opposition.

Walk it off.

That's the problem, the perception that the ANC is all powerful, people would vote for an opposition party if there was a viable opposition -

what we need is one strong collective opposition - that cuts across race, culture, and class lines ( something like the ANC :D ) to stand up to them - but as long as the opposition remains divided there is no hope in stopping the ANC

This has been beaten to death before, and you're still wrong. Voters vote ANC regardless. COSATU is part of the ANC alliance to guarantee the labour force votes ANC. Period. No amount of opposition will change this - not until the ANC splits into non party aligned factions.

Like you said we have argued this point to death before - I don't have the energy to go through that again - lets agree to disagree on this point

Because the poeple there that live there are CRAMPED UP.
Why take the goverment to court.
... They should just leave if they do not want a stadium there- it is best for tourism and the POEPLE of this NAITON.

Hamba kahle!

Even though I agree that it would be in the best interest of Cape Town to have a World Cup semi final, I do not agree with your attitude towards the residents contesting it though. This supposedly is a democratic country we can question the government if we want.

I mean they are cramped UP, because there is so small space.
They are living in sardine can.
They should leave to place of more space, if they do not want stadia there !!

And why not move the stadiUM to a place with more space?.. why do they have to displace people, or put it in an inconvenient place, with infrastructure that was never meant to support that load of people?....

Then again, welcome to the Rainbow Nation it seems...... Like a bull in a china shop mostly..

Hey Mashilom

u mention - The Western Province Rugby Union will move into Green Point Stadium ... pls direct me to the link where the WPRU give their 100% commitment to moving there. Just a ?, why would they leave a perfectly good stadium like Newlands, what would become of it?

One other thing since you seem to believe I have a problem with the way the country is been run, what words would you use to describe the utter mayhem in many departments, as per the auditor general report.

Last, last thing re. Zille, I think she is one ourstanding individual and the province can only go from strength to strength with her leading it!

cheers
air

just saw it now, question fro Gavin, for how long after the WC will those 200K people be employed? are those jobs not of a temporary nature?

Regarding WPRU's move: This was hinted by Zille herself on CapeTalk

Seems there's more *** now - the city council is yet to ok the construction for the stadium  Come on Cape Town... sort out your cr@p.

Rasool accuses City Council of being careless 12/20/2006 6:13:34 PM
Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool says the Cape Town City Council has been careless by not approving the construction of the 2010 Greenpoint Stadium.

The premier today announced that building of the 80 thousand seater stadium will be delayed as council has not endorsed its construction.

At the same time, Environmental Affairs was only tasked with rezoning the Greenpoint Common.

Premier Rasool says Environmental Affairs has picked up on the oversite.
Last month FIFA's local organising committee said Cape Town will lose out of the World Cup if construction to the stadium does not start by January.

They can't really approve it if residents are still objecting and it hasn't been resolved yet.

Or consider an alternative venue within CT?
As far as I know, FIFA approved the Greenpoint stadium, the Newlands stadium was offered as an alternative venue for the Confederations Cup in 2009, but FIFA did not want that. And I believe sponsorship commitments rules Newlands out of the equation?

"said Cape Town will lose out of the World Cup if construction to the stadium does not start by January."

in another post somewhere, someone said that the bloke from s.a. running the show was happy, because the other stadiums would begin construction in february and were well ahead of schedule.

but here they say if CT doesnt start in january they will lose it?
p.s. january starts in 2 weeks.

They want to flatten a golf course to build a stadium. This is not about the old greenpoint stadium (which will remain untouched or knocked down??)

They have had years to sort this out, namely under the previous anc regime. Nothing was done. Ring a bell??!

Now it's CT's fault. Yeah, right.

Doesn't matter whose fault it is now. Blame shift and the City loses the WC, and quite possibly puts the WC in jeopardy for SA.
