I have finally given up on iBurst. There have been good times, but the bad times were really bad, and took forever to get fixed or simply was not acknowledged. Also being called an abuser and the helpdesk putting the phone down in my ear after holding for 25 minutes twice! is very insulting.

iBurst really had allot of potential it's a pity most of the employees don't know what their doing or simply is doing as little as possible to get paid (I feel sorry for those employees who really do try their best). I have given them enough time and money, I believe now is the best time for me to switch over to ADSL with the low ISP prices and line rental getting cheaper.

I will still be monitoring this iburst forum, as I'm interested to see if iburst will come right or get worse.

Good luck to all, and hopefully we will get some cheap reliable broadband in SA that will rival the likes of USA,UK and so forth.

Enjoy WOW on DSL P0tenc. By the way. I think we should all organize a massive MyADSL lan, sometime. This forum could easily put the "Thousand Man Lan" to shame.

Lol....sounds like fun :D

I just hope telkom don't screw us over with their new pricing structure in a few months

For now though 30gb @ R199 is too sweet to resist :p

Seriously considering moving away as well, thinking of 3G, eg MTN. But it seems like my cell SP is a close 2nd to WBS re customer service. And no prizes for guessing who...

I would move to 3G in a flash if they gave me 1Mb/s and even the same prices per gig as WBS. But only the 1G package is priced reasonably. 10G of data will cost you something like R5,000 (or is that R10,000 I forget). I can only hope that their prices would come down to reasonable levels in time. But then we might have Wimax. OK, I know I'm dreaming.

Well I've had iBurst & Vodacom 3G for just over a month now, and my experience is that you cant compare the two services, for me iBurst wins hands down.

Speed

iBurst: When un-capped I'm getting steady 800-1024 Kbps & almost 64 Kbps ave. when capped. Thats on 100% signal strenght with ext. antenna (-64 dB)

V3G: Using bluetooth from my laptop to SE V800 I get about 200 Kbps ave. sometimes spiking to 350 Kbps, but throughput very unsteady (fluctuates a lot). Thats with 4/5 bars on signal strenght.

Stability

iBurst: Only been disconnect once for 3min in the month that I've had it. My tower (Kyalami) seems soild as a rock.

V3G: Both at home & at work (Rosebank area) the 3G connection disappears often, at least once every 2-3 days. When this happens phone falls back to GSM/GRPS. Not only is this irretating for data, but voice also gets affected. My calls are often dropped when switching from UMTS (3G) to GSM and back.

So I wouldn't recommend using V3G as your primary Internet access mechanism.

I had adsl 192 installed yesterday and there is def. a HUGE diff. in browsing speed and my ping is great! I will miss the download speeds of Iburst (specially after hours) and downloading with adsl does influence my pings much more than Iburst.I suppose it is a small price to pay for the stability and pings<50ms, not to mention 30gb cap......this all for less what Iburst cost.
R.I.P. Iburst.......... there were good times(pre-launch) but thereafter things got BAD.

How long did you wait for telkom to install the 192kbps line, and could you specify a date for instalation ?

I did phone telkom but the sales person really seemed clueless :p

I suppose the diff. is based on how well your iBurst was working. Mine works pretty near perfect (for iBurst) but I must say on balance, if I could get ADSL I probably would.

The raw download speed of iBurst is addictive tho.

Do you think that this situation will ever change, i.e. V3G or M3G getting better? I've heard Vodacom (I think) talk about a 2Mb/sec speed sometime later in this year. I can't get ADSL, so it's either Sentech (been there tried that), iBurst (WBS incompetence) or 3G (too expensive and stability problems).

*Sigh*

Well my experience so far tells me Vodacom have still got some way to go to iron out the stability bugs on normal 384 Kbps 3G. Hate to imagine how shaky 2 Mbps will be initially.

Time will tell.

WHO WHAT WHERE ? .... I thought the cheapest now is R349 for 30gb

Web Africa is having a special for the next 3 months for R199 for 30GB. Thats a saving of R450 for three months on the next cheapest offering, so most everyone will be signing up with Web Africa unless Axxess can equal their price.
