Last night I upgraded the last PC in the household to XP SP2.

Was interesting to note that it pulled in another 33MB worth of security patches post SP2 from the Windows Update website once I got the wireless card working.

Will probably limp along with XP SP3 for the forseeable future until the PC are all upgraded to Vista spec.

Well, if you are going to be spending money on hardware, why not buy a Mac (to have along with all your other PC's) and get the Vista features now (and all the other features it was meant to have)

Just maybe....

FUD - new mac's can run XP and OsX and they run it very fast. Apple MacBook Pro 'fastest Windows XP notebook'

EDIT - http://www.macworld.com/2006/04/firstlooks/xpbenchmarks/index.php - some early benchmarks for those who might be interested.

They have an awesome support structure including users groups that are some of the most helpful places I've ever encountered and all machines come with a world wide warranty standard.

Back on topic . . . never had a machine running 2000. I dont know how I skipped it. You mentioned SP3 for XP - is that in the works?

Of course - the dell is newer machine - it's called progress. Still, it served to debunk your erroneous statement.

Did you not claim that "maybe because MAC is expensve, lacks support structure and does not have close to 1/10 of the apps and games that PC's can run????"

Price wise maybe they are a bit high here and I blame the greedy local resellers for that but value for money still exists. Build quality and form factor means a lot. Look around - image can be important.

I think I pretty much debunked the support claim and the ability to run XP means it can run everything a PC running XP can.

PC users need new reasons to summarily dismiss Mac's.

Again, your claim of their support is your perception, my opinion is different, which is what this forum is all about, opinions.
The fact that you say it is good, does not mean it is so and that it is the same experience for everybody.

I was talking about a 'pure' MAC (no ems or xterms) and not loading any software not considered to be indigenous (old skool, if you will) to a MAC but ok, I will give concede the Apps statement to you:
Apple had to do something to allow people to use MS (and supported apps) on their products. :D

Soz tibby.dude
/me also apologizes profusely too ;)

Not to harp merely to clarify but what I was referring to is Xp loaded at startup (instead of OsX) using an Apple program called BootCamp. Its genuine Xp and not emulated.

And I agree - having switched to Intel they would have been foolish to ignore the ability to let ppl run Xp apps. :) Its win-win for them this way.

edit: btw 2K pro was pretty cool in its day... didnt last long for me tho coz XP came out soon after.

The Macbook is not the only offering that is capable of running Windows. The new Dell XPS is also in the margin of $4000+, the Macbook starts at around $1000 ($2000 for the pro), and you can also get an iMac and Mac Mini with the Intel Core Duo. The Mac Mini is a bit underpowered but it looks frigging awesome.

You can see here what Bootcamp is capable of doing, like Grub for Windows/Linux situations
