Has any of you good people made a cabbage soup before?

The recipe I want to try, contains cabbage, carrots, onions, red or green peppers, tomatoes, celery stalks and ½ cup of brown rice.

Cabbage soup!?

No thanks. Sounds vile.

Cabbage should not be boiled for long periods. Blu, leave out the cabbage in that cabbage soup recipe. And wtf is the rice for? That recipe sounds like a cabbage flavoured water to be honest...

I once ordered lettuce soup at a B&B and it was literally hot water with a lettuce leaf floating in it - THAT was vile!

Sounds like a great recipe apart from the cabbage . Anyway what about cabbage's distressing side effects?

If I left out the cabbage it wouldn't be cabbage soup, non?

One can of course add salt and pepper or other herbs / spices for more taste.

The ingredients sounds like the diet soup I heard of.

+1 Its a diet soup recipe :) My friend tried it a while ago, and she lost like a heap of weight. It works, but when you finished with your soup diet, you must watch what you eat, otherwise it comes back double.

All the spices in the world won't mask the cabbage taste :D
Rather bin the cabbage and rename your dish

Cabbage soup... it just sounds sickening.
Its the kinda stuff you make if all you have to live on are leaves. Throw it in sum water and call it cabbage soup...

Problem being?

Rather just make veg soup - much tastier...

With all the other ingredients I mentioned in my OP, it IS in fact a vegetable soup if one wants to be technical about it.

That's precisely what we had for lunch every Saturday for twelve years in our school hostel.
Farting memories. :D

Actually, cabbage soup is pretty good, although I've taken to calling it farty soup.
